1. Dual Electronics XGPS150A Multipurpose Augmentation

Dual Electronics XGPS150A Multipurpose Augmentation

Add Gps. You can strengthen your Gps signal on any device by connecting via wireless. The free downloadable app provides accurate gps coordinates, position update rate change, and much more. Being able to add accurate gps to your device will allow you to use hundreds of available apps. The Gps receiver has a battery life of over eight hours of continuous use and comes with a usb charging cord. That will stick to most surfaces.

Brand: Dual Electronics

👤It works better than I anticipated. I have an older WiFi only iPad Mini that I wanted to use for navigation but it doesn't have built-in gps. When I connected my iPad mini to the dual XGPS105A via a wireless connection, it asked to download the accompanying app. The app is useful. It tells you the number of satellites you are connected to, the signal strength, position information, and the battery status. I turned it on in the house because I couldn't wait but I was able to connect to multiple satellites with ease. I thought I would have to go outside. With the gps locked and loaded, I tried out some maps. Both worked well. My weather radar map is now location enabled. Awesome. I have taken it down the road a few times now, about 100 miles total, without issue, but I will update this review once I have a longer road trip under my belt. I didn't expect to see the app mentioned in any of the reviews or forums. This thing is special. I can't wait to try it out against other devices, like a newer iPad, windows tablets, and some surveying equipment. I will report back, but so far it's been good.

👤Don't buy anything from AXXERA or DUAL. The unit will work for 25 times, then the internals will short out, killing the battery, but they will sell you another battery. Next year there will be some other name. They changed their names to keep up with consumer fraud. Don't buy anything made by these people. You will be sad.

👤I bought a gps receiver for my Jeep. This product works in conjunction with my Apple iPad and provides pin point accurate gps for any app you are using. It takes 5 to 10 minutes to connect to my iPad via BluTooth once I turn on the puck. This could be my fault. Overall very pleased! It's easy to charge up at home or in your vehicle. Very easy to use. I stuck a piece of tape to the back of the vehicle and it still works.

👤For almost two months, use the dual XGPS150A with my iPad 2. Since the iPad 2 didn't have a gps receiver installed, I decided to use the dual XGPS 150A, which is described in the technical documentation to receive 12 gps and up. The dual XGPS15A is a free navigation app that has a very simple and minimalist design. The dual XGPS150A receiver is small and has Haptics very pleasant. The gps is green. The Bluethooth connection is created relatively fast after switch on, but the GLONASS satellites are not supported, but they are displayed in the app, but they are crossed out. It happens in dense forests on winding roads and in large cities close to tall houses. When you're on foot in New York, Boston, and Chicago, the pressure point is non-tactile, so locating is almost non-existent. The dual XGPS150A would no longer splash water and dirt if you removed the plastic cover and cut a hole in the non-slip pad.

2. Calculation Measurement Multifunctional Measuring Instrument

Calculation Measurement Multifunctional Measuring Instrument

The area measurement error is 1-2% with high-precision technology. You can set the local time for the area measure on the large screen, which makes it more clear and visually. Measurement features include aGPS area measuring tool of any shape, and measure length of any shape, figure track and automatically calculate price measurement. Sturdy and sturdy design, can protect the area to the fullest extent, with portable design, fits in your hand or pockets perfectly, rubberized case offers a comfortable feeling of grip. There is a wide range of applications. There is a wide range of applications.

Brand: Beva

👤This is a very easy to learn device, it comes with no instructions. It will measure the length of a path you walk or it will measure the area you walk in. You will need to set the time for where you are. Houston, TX is in the United States. The day/month/year and Time of Day will be included in the log files. It's nearly impossible to reconstruct what you have measured if this is wrong. I use this to measure how long a driveway is, how much water a lot has, and how long a road is. I use it to figure out the size of a shop, building or back yard patio, as well as the area of a parking lot. I am very impressed with what it does. It uses gps and compasses for accurate measurements. It's easier to use this for job estimates than it is for actual jobs.

👤I was in need of a land survey after one of my neighbors told me that part of my fence line was on the other side of the property. I found the gps coordinates for the fence line after buying this item. I was able to show my neighbor that he was wrong. I surveyed his 10 acres for big land and it was very expensive.

👤The gps coordinates are way off, it looks good with a bunch of features.

👤We purchased to protect the boundaries of the property lines. It wouldn't depict the correct lat/long. Maybe ours was faulty, but we decided to order a much more expensive model.

👤I measured the parking spots in the empty parking lot. I started at one end point, walked along the parking line, across to the opposite line from the parking spot directly in front, and then back on the other side to reach the original location. The entry for the cars to park is the parallelogram without the ends. The screen moved to adjust for the angles and I arrived at the starting point with a small gap. I don't know if the gap makes a difference or if I had the settings wrong. I hope I can find a way to reset the unit.

👤I plugged the gps into my laptop but it didn't recognize it. I will return if the seller can't give me a solution, because it didn't come with instructions.

👤This one was about a mile off on latitude and longitude. I live at 6000 feet, but it said I was at 6000 feet. It would have been handy to use. I don't think this one is representative of others.

👤It's hard to get mappers with chip shortages. This unit is not perfect. It does the job if you need basic latitude and longitude.

3. Garmin Overlander Multipurpose Navigator Off Grid

Garmin Overlander Multipurpose Navigator Off Grid

For large overlanding vehicles, the weight and length are used. Can be mounted anywhere with a powered magnetic mount. Pairs with in reach satellite communicators for two-way text messaging and interactive weather forecasts.

Brand: Garmin

👤I could type a novel about how bad a fail this thing is but I don't have time. If you want to be helpful, you should not buy this, for $600 you can buy a better system like a tablet or a pro version of multiple apps. This is a terrible, expensive, and redundant device to try and do what other systems do. I was hoping for a "one stop" top grade "overlander" device, as an avid camper, hiker, and owner of a decked out 4Runner hitting the back roads frequently. 1 hour. I spent that time looking for known campgrounds, places, and backroads that I would expect a device marketed as an overlanding device to have. It was not only bad at that essential, but it was also bad at everything else that can be done better with a phone or a tablets. dyrt, gaia gps, freeroam, iOverlander, and even USA topo maps are all available on the internet. Even the "cool" almost gimmicky feature that shows the angles of your vehicle on the road was useless. There is more redundancy. garmin devices have done a lot to the gps map and athletics community. Spend your money elsewhere. This is a hard to use device that is being made a cash grab for to take advantage of the popularity of the overland scene. I can't imagine how this will last without massive software improvements and features. This is my contribution to those who are out on the trails.

👤I bought this unit because it had a larger screen with higher resolution and a number of cool apps. I bought this unit because I was going to use my high resolution maps from the Garmin. I was not happy. The unit has a micro card reader, but it won't show the 24K maps. My worst fear was confirmed by a long call to the support team at Garmin. There is no backtrack trail feature in the outdoor hand held units. You think that since this unit was designed for the off- trail user, there would be a back track feature, without having to store the bread crumbs trail before turning back like in this unit. There are sections of rocky trails in the forest where a back-track feature is nice to have. Although the price was steep for this unit, I will keep it for its other features, but now have to use a hand held gps to see Hunt View information. The new update includes Hunt View and other custom maps. Hunt View Maps are included in the Drive program. I am loving my device now. If you can afford one, I would recommend the Overlander.

👤I was going on a vacation with my wife and kids and I was thinking about buying a gps device instead of using my phone. I read many reviews before buying this item. We are mostly good. I decided to buy it. After using the gps for a while, it got hot but it seemed okay. On the third day of using it, it went black and wouldn't turn on, I was close to my destination. It was hot. After pulling it off my car, it turned back on. I was not happy at that point but I think we will be a success. The thing stopped working when I was driving home from dropping my grandkids off at their mothers near Baltimore, it was a bit confusing. The last straw was that. I returned it when I got home. I am really disappointed with this model. When I bought it, I was really excited. We will use my phone again. I wouldn't recommend this to a friend.

4. Te Rich Handheld GLONASS Measurer Calculation

Te Rich Handheld GLONASS Measurer Calculation

Construction engineering survey is an application. instant and precise positioning is provided by the gps system. Measure the area and length of any shape. The large screen makes it clear and visually striking. Satellite signal intensity and positioning precision are shown. Automatic farmland area and length measurement. Automatic farmland area and length measurement.

Brand: Te-rich

👤I was surprised at how accurate the one I bought was. It is usually close to the location. If you are comparing it to the unit, you may have to convert it to minutes and seconds.

👤There is nothing to like about this item. It wouldn't take a charge if it did. It wouldn't turn on unless it was plugged in. I was able to get it to stay on and it provided strange results such as showing tens of feet in movement in "2 point distance" mode while stationary. There is a picture on my desk. The altitude measurement changes while stationary and displays in meters regardless of settings. The selection buttons can be sticky and don't always come back after pressing. Don't spend your money or time on this item.

👤I was trying to figure out the amount of acres I had to give to the farmer. It was impossible to measure the timber because there were so many fingers in the fields. It was easy to calculate the acres with this device. It is easy to set up. I drove the field edges on an ATV until I got to my starting point. It calculated the area and had a map of it. It was saved to the history. It made the measurement impossible for me, and now I don't have to wonder if I am overcharging or not. This device was simple to use.

👤I use it a lot. I used the map to find the boundary stakes.

👤It works well, but do not expect a precise location, probably around 50 feet is as close as you can get.

👤The menu and unit are not accurate.

👤The device was frozen out of the box. I had to open the battery compartment to turn it off. I have to carry a screw driver with me when I use the device. Will be reaching out to the seller.

👤It was easy to learn to use. If I could just find a mount for it.

5. Garmin Striker Dual Beam Transducer 010 01870 00

Garmin Striker Dual Beam Transducer 010 01870 00

The dual-beam transducer with the traditional sonar is included. You can use the built-in mapping software to create and store maps with up to 2 million acres. You can use built-in gps to mark routes and view boat speed. The 4.3” display is bright and Sunlight-readable. Every fishing environment has a rugged design. Transmit power: 200 W (RMS) and frequencies: 50/77/83/200 kHz.

Brand: Garmin

👤I didn't have the chance to enjoy it. The device malfunctioned after only a couple of times, and I won't be able to use it again. I've tried to get in touch with the support of the company, but every time they let me wait for a response, it didn't help with my device. Since I first addressed them, nothing has happened. The product is nice, so it's too bad. Good features and affordable. The service was the worst ever. I'm very disappointed.

👤Great fish finder! It's perfect for my kayak use.

👤The unit is very easy to use and the display has no issues in direct sunlight. I like the automatic night mode for low light use. I am using a kayak.

👤If you use this in saltwater, be careful. I had to replace the power cable after 3 months because the connection melted. The push connections in the back of the unit are not waterproof. After I installed the unit, I coated it with grease, took it off my kayak, cleaned and stored it in a dry place, but I still have to clean the pins periodically. The transducer is flush on the PDL. The unit works well at depths to 120 feet and I have no problems finding structure or bait with it.

👤I bought it for ice fishing. The portable kit came from the same company. The unit did a great job on the ice. I was in 30 feet of water and set the transducer to 200kHz. I have a flasher that I normally use for ice fishing, but I used the graph with A-Scope instead, because I thought that was what I would use on this one. I liked how I watched the fish react to me jigging. The standard boat transducer was used. I'm not sure if I'll buy the ice transducer from Garmin. The one that came with it was very good. It picked up on the fish. The screen is very bright. The screen is large enough that I had no issues with it. I decided to use the portable kit from Garmin for open water fishing. The Striker Plus 4 worked well. I used it on my father-in-law's boat which already has a fish finder. The Humminbird interfered with me but I was able to see everything that the Humminbird did. The mapping feature on the Garmin seemed to do a great job for me. I did not get to map a lot of the lake because it is over 1200 acres, but I did get to look at the map. You would expect the gps to work well. I am very pleased with the device. Plus 4. The 4 inch screen was too small for me. The 5 inch would be better. Since I didn't have enough money to buy the 5 inch model, I had to get the 4 inch model which is larger and more suited for ice fishing. I can use it for open water too, even though it costs less than a new flasher. It is just as good as your standard ice fishing flasher.

7. ACR ResQLink View Buoyant Personal

Multiple visual signals are ensured by the use of a Strobe light that is bright as well as an IR Strobe light.

Brand: Acr

👤Do not buy this beacon if you see that it is being sold by a company called Orbital Satcom Corp. When we tried to set up our beacon, our satellite registration was rejected. ACR and the NOAA found out that Orbital Satcom Corp is illegally refurbished beacon from the UK. The beacon won't work in the US. I flagged Orbital Satcom Corp with Amazon because I am concerned that more of these illegal beacon may be on the market. We rely on this beacon to save our lives when we are fishing off shore without cell service. If we had an emergency, we would not have been saved because it was not working. $375 is spent on an emergency product that will not work and it has been illegally reprogrammed.

👤A brand-new sealed unit was received. The self-test failed immediately. ACR initially was very responsive, but then told me that they don't know when they will be able to provide a replacement, and that all their stock is allocated to filling new orders. Good luck getting a warranty replacement if you buy one of these. This is not acceptable on safety equipment.

👤The product was received in a timely manner, but the battery only has 4 years and 3 months left. When you don't get 5 years on the battery, don't advertise.

👤As long as I don't die, I can call for help. I bought my first one 5 years ago and it was very easy to use. The good news is that this is the second one I ordered, but I returned the first one because it was already 6 months old. The second one is 6 months old.

👤This is for Christmas. The unit tried to conduct their self test. The unit failed the test. I contacted ACR. I will make a new update based on how they respond. This review needs to be updated. The new unit was free of charge and passed both the basic self test and the gps test. I will increase my rating but my faith in this unit has been shaken because I am not the only one to have a brand new unit fail the "Basic Self Test".

👤There is a date on 1/3-21. It's not aGPSPLB so far. It might work as a drawer handle, but only if it is a drawer handle. The device is as expected. After returning the drawer handle, there was a little delay.

👤I chose the slightly more expensive version because it has a nice screen that gives you instant acknowledgement that the unit is on and working. I only tested it and it comes with a carrying case, you can attach it to your belt or loop. I ordered mine from the United Kingdom. I was unable to register my first unit for the warranty because the date of manufacture was missing. I was sent a new unit after contacting both Orbital Satcom and ACR. Make sure the date of manufacture is on the box.

8. ACR GlobalFix Cat EPIRB Manual

ACR GlobalFix Cat EPIRB Manual

The multiple built-in redundancies of the GlobalFIX marine distress EPIRB will increase your probability of survival at sea. The GlobalFIX V4 accurately fixes your location and broadcasts it to Search and Rescue forces worldwide via a powerful 406 MHz distress signal. The US country code is used for the registration of this HairMax and must be registered to a vessel with a US MMSI number. The first point of contact during an emergency situation would be the US Search and Rescue authorities. This is not suitable for use in Australia and New Zealand. If you need to register outside of the US, you can purchase their alternative listing. The device can be registered in the country of your choice with the help of a reprogrammed device. Please be aware that the same country must be used for both the EPIRB and the MMSI. Most countries require you to register your HairMax. If your beacon is ever activated, it is important that you register so that Search and Rescue Teams can know who you are, and contacts can give you information about your travel plans. It may take more time for a search-and-rescue operation to start. In grave and imminent danger to life, this HairMax should only be used. Search and Rescue services are disrupted by false alerts. A penalty could be imposed for carelessness misuse of the device. In grave and imminent danger to life, this HairMax should only be used. Search and Rescue services are disrupted by false alerts. 👤It really works. I removed mine from its cradle while I was painting the center console and it got wet from the hose overspray. I didn't realize it until the middle of the day. I went to check my phone and saw my mom, my oldest son, and the coast guard all calling me. Oops. If you follow directions, your life will be saved.

👤If you're getting an EpiRB, make sure it's 406mhz. The 120something mhz are for tourists and dominate Amazon's selection. Read the fine print.

👤I own two ACR products, the first is installed on a sailboat. Online registration is quicker and easier than the SALVAGEDATA.

👤I bought this for my boat since we run the East Grand Traverse Bay in spots that are 600' deep. It is necessary to have safety equipment in case something happens.

👤A piece of mind when in the ocean.

👤US programmed epirb was shipped. Can't be reprogrammed by ACR. I can't have a Canadian device shipped to me in the US because they can't. Canadian devices can be shipped to the US and vice versa. This error was able to occur. The hassle to ship the device to family in Canada and then pay to ship it to me in the US was nothing. iSave broke their own rules and shipped a US device to Canada, which will delay my ocean crossing.

9. SUUNTO MC 2 USGS Mirror Compass

SUUNTO MC 2 USGS Mirror Compass

Easy step-by-step instructions help you learn how to set and adjust your Sun Company altimeters. The professional mirror compass was designed for precise direction measurement and has been balanced for global use with metric scales and inch ruler. Operable in low light conditions. The compass has a hole for accurate bearings, a notch for declination adjustment, and aclinometer. Stay on course, the mechanical compasses made in Finland are great for Alpine skiing, hiking, trekking, mountain biking, trail running and more. Their compasses are easy to use, fast, and stable, and no batteries are required. Over 80 years of high quality heritage craftsmanship, relentless accuracy, and innovative innovation have been brought to the table by the team at Suunto.

Brand: Suunto

👤The SUUNTO MC-2 line is ok for general use, but it can be difficult to navigate at night or in marginal weather conditions. The problem is that they removed most of the black orientation arrow to make room for a SUUNTO logo, which makes getting accurate bearings or back-bearings difficult in marginal conditions. In dark or wet conditions, we often need to use the entire orientation arrow to line up the needle for an accurate bearing, and the loss of 70% of the black arrow makes that very difficult. If you need to rely on a compass to navigate, or as a backup to your gps, I would highly recommend a model that doesn't compromise the look of the logo.

👤A large bubble was created by this compass. A large bubble moves the needle. This is very annoying for a compass. They told me I have to pay for shipping and return when I called them. I was told to call Amazon to see if they would give me a replacement. They were nice but didn't care that I warned them. I don't need more sucunto for me. They asked me to take a survey, but I was told that 0 was invalid, and they ended the call.

👤The overall compass is great. This compass is over the top with nice luxury features, but it is also a Suunto, which means you can bet your life on it. One of the few compasses that I trust is sunonto. The MC-2G is more expensive than a well-designed, functional compass you can trust, and it is nicer. If you don't care about all the bells and whistles and the need for a Global needle, you would do just fine with the MC-2G, or perhaps the M-3), which is about half the price. The MC-2G is a good choice if you're willing to drop $65-$70 on a base compass plate. The metric version had the 1:45k and 1:45k Romer scales. There are three versions of this compass, so be aware if you're looking to purchase one. Even though I received the wrong compass, it's helpful to know what you're buying. There are three versions of the MC-2G. The Romer scales are 1:45k and 1:45k for the metric version. The centimeters are listed along the left side of the compass and in inches on the right side. I received a compass. There are two more The USGS/Inch version has a different look. The scale is 1:24k and can be used with 7.5 minute maps from the US Geological Survey. I thought I was buying this one based on the listing. There are 3 more The scale version of the mils. Even though I received the wrong model of the MC-2G, I'm well-versed in land navigation and use a map and compass. It's not a big deal if you know how to properly use a compass and map with the 1:45 and 1:45 Romers referenced. The metric version has an inch ruler broken down into 1-20ths along the right side of the compass, which makes it easy to use with a 7.5 minute topos based on 1-inch. The rubber feet on the back of the base plate do not protrude like the other two, so there are a few cons. This is a manufacturer defect. There are two more I thought I would damage the compass snapping the lid because of the amount of force required. I'll close the compass when not in use, but I won't snap the lid shut. There are 3 more The lanyard attachment is plastic. The design is flawed and doesn't give me warm fuzzies that the lanyard attachment will keep the compass attached to the lanyard in the long run. I have attached the lanyard to the compass with a larks head knot instead of using the lanyard attachment. I don't have to worry about the lanyard detaching from the compass. The compass was a great buy. I like it. I use 7.5 topos for back country excursions, but the 1:24k Romer scale is not essential if you're not familiar with land navigation and using a map and compass. It's not a big deal breaker for me and it's worth the hassle to return it. I still use an MGRS Coordinate Grid reader, which references several map scales. The metric version of this compass is a good deal for someone who just wants a compass that is 7.5 minutes long and has a topo map. The MC-2G is a great compass with all the bells, whistles, and luxuries you'll ever need.

10. Garmin ETrex Rugged Handheld Navigator

Garmin ETrex Rugged Handheld Navigator

The handheld gps is reliable. The display has a sunlight-readable color and display size of 220 x 220. There are roads and trails for hiking and cycling in the Topo Active maps. Tracking in more challenging environments is possible with the support of gps and GLONASS satellite systems. There is 8 gigabytes of internal memory for map downloads. Up to 25 hours in the gps mode with 2 AA batteries.

Brand: Garmin

👤A lot of the negative reviewers didn't understand what they were buying when they ordered this. This isn't a replacement for your maps and it isn't intended to be. Some of the negatives are positive features. It was large. It's large, but it will take a lot more beating than a small smart phone. The shape makes it easier to hold in the hand. 2. There is no touchscreen. Have you ever tried to use your phone in the rain? Touchscreens are great in warm climates. It is designed for use in dirty environments. 3. The user interface is outdated. This sort of phone is similar to a 2008 cell phone. The layout is easy to set up and contributes to the battery life. 4. AA batteries. The eTrex doesn't have a rechargeable battery like every other electronic device. It's difficult to understand why they think this would be a good idea. If you're out on a long hike/camping/hunting trip for several days, it's unlikely that you'll have access to a charging port, which makes it easier to just pop in two new batteries when the old ones run out. 5. There is a memory capacity. The maps take up the entire integrated memory. You can buy a 32gb card for $6 and download as many maps as you want. There are lots of videos on how to do this. 6. There is no map detail. I haven't encountered any flaws with the maps, so unless you're trekking through Gates of the Arctic, you'll probably be covered on any state or local trails. 7. Inaccuracy of location. The registered location is close to where I'm actually standing. My cell phone is usually off by 50 to 100 feet. It's not the point of exactitude, it's to help you find your way back to your camp, etc. Being off by a few yards isn't a big deal if you're within sightline. There are 8. There are noroutable maps. It operates differently than your phone's map app. You type in the address and it takes you there. It's not clear why people think it won't. There are 9. The features and interface are confusing. I can't believe this one. There are lots of videos and articles on how to use features. I download AllTrails Pro trails into Basecamp and then export them onto the eTrex when I'm ready to go. I follow the trail on the device. There are two more When I go on a non-prepared trip, I use the eTrex to record my track and save it on the device, then I plug it into my computer and send it to Basecamp. Done. If you're outdoors a lot, you're willing to dedicate minimal time to understanding how to use it, and you understand that this sub-$200 gps that will last you for a decade is not intended to replace your $800+ cellphone.

👤The company is abysmal. The product they have created is straight out of the era of the Blackberry. They offer nothing in the handheld market that is close to a modern device. This piece of hardware and software is not good. I will return it. I didn't return the inferior Garmin that I have in my car, and it burns me up. Never again! The screen is tiny, and I have encountered other issues in my brief period of ownership. I need to hike in the desert. The screen is useless. My phone works in the same way with no glasses. - The best tech minds don't work for Garmin. - The screen gets bumped in your pocket and you lose battery life. You can't search for a location by state, it returns zero results. The method to change the order of items in the Main menu is different from the Route Planning menu. - The deleted tracks menu contains all the settings. What? There are no maps. The data is solid, so I give this 2 stars instead of 1 Since my return of this device, I have been using a solution. I wanted a dedicated device just for mapping, I hike extensively off trail. I bought a burner phone at a box store and it works without being activated. I disabled all the apps that I could. I bought and downloaded Gaia for mapping and route finding. You can download maps before you leave. You can get phone service if you don't have to download maps, but it will cost more. I made the device bulletproof by adding a protective case with a backpack clip and an external battery pack. The setup has been great. Gaia is awesome. There are maps on the screen. The hardware and software are easy to use. The accuracy is very good. I have access to a lot of maps. Finally, it's a cheaper option. It's shocking that the company that does this can't do it.

11. Bad Elf 2200 Black Silver

Bad Elf 2200 Black Silver

You can connect up to 5 devices at a time. Also compatible with the iPod touch 5th generation, the new iPad, and the new iPad mini. The large screen has a backlight. The datalogger has over 100 hours of tracking data. The reporting rate is 10Hz and the battery life is extra long. Rugged and splash-proof.

Brand: Bad Elf

👤I am in need of a sub-meter accuracy gps, and have been doing a lot of research. If I had not had such a bad experience with their cheapest device, I would consider getting their $600 model. I'm going to pay hundreds of dollars to rent a real GNSS device, because there's no way I'm going to use another Bad Elf product. I know they didn't care about my experience, but I'm not interested in their high-end model because of it. It can get a slightly better fix than an iPhoneGPS, which is about 1-2 meters better accuracy. It is great to have it recording constantly and it can record a lot of points. It records wildly inaccurate locations (100s of meters off), or just records the point where I first turned it on, regardless of where I go. The communication between the app and the unit isn't reliable, which may be the crux of the problem. When I turn on tracking in the app, it will show it is enabled, but I will later learn it is not on the device. Even though it looks like it did, tapping Save POI often does nothing. Half the value of the device is that it can be in a backpack or resting on a survey monument within the range of the device, but I learned that it only gets at least one POI recorded if you tap it twice. I didn't get good data after I downloaded the recording and left the field. I contacted Bad Elf, and after a brief email exchange, it was obvious that this wasn't a bug but a hardware problem. I needed a replacement unit for crickets. I've sent several emails to see if I can get a response, but it seems like I'm stuck with a very expensive dud. I hope this review will save other people from the same fate. The sad thing was that I was considering getting the Surveyor version of it to get more accuracy, until I realized that they wouldn't stand behind their products.

👤I used this unit to log my location during my trip from the US to Cambodia, Vietnam, and Tokyo. The logging rate was set to 5 seconds. It was always on. The entire trip used 20% of the logging memory. It never failed to work for an entire day. It didn't charge on two occasions. It ran out of charge after 36 hours. It was able to keep lock on most flights, but not on the 787. I wish it used microusb. The battery indicator goes from all bars to one bar down. I would like to take trips with other devices than just the ones on the iPad. Maybe they could publish the protocol so someone else could implement it.

👤I like these units. They are small and have no memory or battery issues. It works with your phone and doesn't need a phone to log data. It is a great tracker. I use it to track where I have been. My negatives are accurate. Even with a dozen satellite locks, the average accuracy is closer to 4.5m. The best Bad Elf units I have ever seen were 9' and that was only for a couple points. I took a sample of a million points and saw 12 out of 12. The advertised 2.5m is far less than the less than. The only way to improve that is to upgrade to the GNSS which will cost you 3X more for an increase in accuracy of 5 or so feet. You can only export data in the outdated KML or GPX formats. Even with the accuracy issues, this is the best unit I have ever used for cost, size, and ease of use. It has been my go for over a decade and I will continue for many more.
