👤A Western Highland puppy is notorious for getting into trouble. A puppy that likes to run and is nearly impossible to catch is very problematic for a home where fencing is not allowed. We were at our wits end after several incidents of him escaping. I purchased this device in desperation and we couldn't be more pleased. When we put the collar on him, he is aware of his freedom and is happy to be outside. Our hope is that we can take the collar off and he will stay in the area. This device has been everything we could have hoped for and we love it. Plug in and use the dial to change the size of your circle, without digging or installing a real 888-353-1299 I warn you to be careful with your pet with the device on. I took our puppy into the garage and front yard and when my wife came home he jumped into her car to greet our girls. I think the metal and mass of the car blocked the device, and he got a little shock, even though he was within the permitted area. If you are patient, this device will work with any size dog and you and your pet will find new freedom and peace when your pet is running free.

👤Our lab is 16 months old and I bought this collar for him. She would run through the standard collar correction as soon as the kids played outside of the area set up for her and would "take the punishment" until the collar timed out. She would run away for an hour at a time and cause problems in the neighborhood. The collar has worked well. She has only been corrected a couple of times and she has yet to stand up to it. The Rechargeable option is better than the standard batteries.

👤My puppy was always going and trashing their flower bed. I was not sure about wireless containment systems as my pup is too young, and I couldn't lay down a fence. I saw this product in my friend's home and was so impressed with his dog that I ordered this the very next day. The strap could be adjusted to fit my small dog and the warning tone was enough to stop him from wandering far away.

👤If you don't want to mess with burying the wire, this is a great alternative. I trained my golden retriever in less than two weeks. Within an hour, I had this setup and operational, which included setting the desired range and placing the flags. Keep that in mind when you decide between a wired system and this. It was easy to take this along on a weekend trip and use it in a strange location for my puppy. I can't comment on the battery life yet, but if your dog does not test the boundary and the collar is not activated, the battery seems to last a lot longer. There is a Most people were very skeptical about this product. I am very happy with the decision to try it.

2. PetSafe PIF00 12917 Wireless Fence System

PetSafe PIF00 12917 Wireless Fence System

For US market only. The portable wireless transmitter has no wires. You can create a circular perimeter of up to 1/3 of an acre. The collar is designed for comfort and charges in 2 to 3 hours. There are 5 levels of static correction and a tone-only mode for training dogs over 5 pounds. There are three collars and a flag.

Brand: Petsafe

👤The system is working well for our pets. My 12 year old trained them according to the book. They had a fence their entire lives. They were able to adapt well to this. After adjusting for the pain, my dog no longer does this. It's a circle only and probably wouldn't be used on a small yard. It worked well because we have just under 2 acres. You can only change the circle to be larger or smaller. We moved the circle further from where we needed it. I would love to have an app that would let me know where the dogs are. An app would've fixed this because it was annoying to bend down for a large circle to put flags out. You have to figure that out and adjust. I'm very impressed with the cost savings from underground and how well it works. I would buy it again if it was mobile.

👤The wired system is for metal roofs. The Transmitter died after two weeks. The metal roof is not compatible with the transmitter.

👤I bought two systems, one for front and the other for the back yard. The front was added as recommended because the back yard was limited. My dogs were confused by them. I have to pull them out of the tether. Not good at all.

👤Three dogs are on this system. It took about a week for them to get used to the perimeter. If you have smaller dogs, keep the power turned down. Love it. If the power goes off for any reason, the dogs will get shocked, and that's the only issue I have found. I let the dogs in the house during the storm.

👤I had an underground fence system at a previous home. The cost of keeping my dogs in the yard has gone up so I looked for a more affordable product. One correction is all it took. I live on the top of a hill and have a crazy yard with a pool, metal Carport, and a hill with drop offs, and the unit works perfectly. The charge is likely to last three weeks. It takes no time to get back to business. I need small investment to keep my babies safe.

👤The underground wire fence was difficult to install for two years. The dogs have responded well to the fresh air and it is such a breath of fresh air. When we take the camper into the woods, we can take this with us. There are no chains or tie downs to drag around.

👤The product is not working in my home. I have moved it three times. There is an inference with the 3 collars. They all receive the signal in different places. If it was only a few feet, it wouldn't be a problem. I have a difference in the placement of the flags. The company tells me that the transmitter is at least 5 feet away from any metal. The brochure says it needs to be 3 feet. This cost me $600 and I am at a loss. I can't leave the transmitter outside in the elements because it works great when it's outside. It is probably too late for a refund for me. I still have to check. I've spent a lot of time trying to get it to work. I had the transmitter replaced once. The product information doesn't make clear that small household items that have a little metal will interfere with the transmission. I'm not sure if it's the problem since it's not near any metal. I should have invested in a chain link fence because it has been a huge hassle.

👤The wire was laid out around a small part of the house. The 16 gauge PetSafe wire was much stronger than the 20 gauge wire. We tested the system before burying the wire. I read the entire manual on how to set up the system after watching many videos. The signal was not consistent in YardMax. Sometimes it corrected when crossing the boundary, but in other places it didn't do anything. It didn't give any warning in the traditional mode. It started to correct near the boundary wire. We were still getting inconsistent results even after moving out fence wire away from theirs, even though our neighbors have an in-ground fence that runs off an FM signal that interfered at some parts. The most important aspect of an invisible fence is consistency, and this system is not consistent in either setting. If you buy this system, make sure to test it all around your yard before burying the wire. I left a review on the PetSafe website. I received an email that said my review was live, but it was not on their website. They admitted that they took down my review because they wanted to trouble shoot the issue with me. It should be easy to make your own kit out of the box without having to call a company. Negative reviews are dishonest to remove.

👤Two other brands did not work for us. We should have started with PetSafe because we had friends that used their units well. They give the dog more "zap" for being stubborn. This one has an infinite "zap" zone that goes beyond the wire, so if a dog is willing to put up with a few seconds of "zap" to get out of the fence, this one keeps zapping. Our dog was kept out of the yard by this unit. We got a portable unit because we took this camping. It worked well, but you have to read on. Sometimes the unit would randomly zap our dog. It got him good when he was close to the yard. We took the collar off. We had to return the unit because that can't happen. It is the best system out there. Maybe the non-battery powered unit works better.

👤The majority of the yard was attached to wire fencing and we ordered the upgraded black wire. We were buried under gates. We had to trench for 7 gates because we have several pastures and 2 driveways in our yard. We didn't want to hit the fence with the weed eater because the rest of the fencing is zip-tied. Only one training session was taken by our dogs. Our dogs were fence jumpers and could clear 5-foot no-climb fencing from standing. I haven't charged a collar for a year because he doesn't test it. He is waiting to be invited. The other will approach the fence if he doesn't hear a warning, so we keep his collar charged. The original batteries are still on. This fence is very good. If you are installing above ground, I suggest getting the upgraded wire.

4. Smoostart Wireless Containment Boundary Waterproof

Smoostart Wireless Containment Boundary Waterproof

No need to bury wires, it's simple and convenient. There are 5 levels of coverage. The center of the transmitter is 100 ft (30m), 200 ft (60m), 300 ft (90m), 500 ft (150m) and 990 ft (300m) from the beginning. Your dog can play in this space without being concerned about being lost or restricted movement. When your dog crosses the limit, the collar receiver will give an audible warning for 5 seconds. If your dog does not return to the restricted area after being warned, it will be shocked by the collar receiver for 5 seconds. The dog will be warned and killed for 8 seconds if it doesn't come back after being cut. The dog's collar receiver has an audible warning if the dog still isn't back. After power on, a transmitter and receiver can connect extremely fast without using the code pair. You can add the Training Collar to your needs. A transmitter can match up to 3 other people. If you have three dogs in your home, you only need to purchase one Wireless Dog Fence set and two additional Training Collars. Save your money. The training collar uses reflective material to increase night safety. Comes with waterproof and snowproof function. On rainy and snowy days, your pet can play in your yard. You don't have to worry.

Brand: Smoostart

👤It doesn't work. Have contacted Amazon before.

👤My dog is a bit stubborn and this is useful. We tried to do it and it worked well, but she hates it. I am not sure how much it will be used. I need more space for her to be protected.

👤It is difficult to get adjusted just right.

5. Petsafe PIF 300 Wireless Containment System

Petsafe PIF 300 Wireless Containment System

The collar fits dogs up to 8 pounds and is adjusted to fit neck sizes 6 to 28 inches. When a pet strays into a warning zone, the receiver delivers safe static correction. The setup and training manual is included.

Brand: Petsafe

👤I bought this item to help train my dog at our new house. This thing has never been reliable. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. When my dog was standing at the back door waiting to be let in, she started screaming. The collar shocked her and she was nowhere near the boundary. I got her inside to take the collar off and it continued to shock her. I was standing next to the transmitter holding the collar in my hand and it was still shocking. I am angry. This piece of shit was not cheap and I want a refund. Don't buy this product.

👤I was told many times that this thing would work. I had doubts. How was I supposed to trust something I had never tried before? My two dogs haven't been outside since I hooked it up. I am very happy with the purchase. They are easy to clean and take care of, they roll around in the mud and woods, and the transmitter is plugged in under the bathroom sink so you can't see it, and they have plenty of flags. It makes me feel good that I can let our two dogs out to explore without being concerned they will run off. I still keep an eye on them, but it helps put me at ease. Great purchase.

👤The product says two pet containment, but only has one collar. One picture has one collar while the other has two. Don't order this one if you need a containment system for two dogs. Make sure you get two of the ones you order.

👤This is an extra fence for our dog. We already had one like this and wanted to expand it. The extra space was a plus for us because we have four large dogs. My dogs were initially hesitant to go outside of the original boundary of the one unit, but are now starting to understand that the border is bigger because of the addition of the second unit, so they are going farther away from the house to do their business. If you choose to use multiple wireless fence units, make sure the boundaries overlap by a few feet so that the dogs can move quickly from one area to the next without the collar going off. If you want to avoid a full reset of the collars, you need to be within two to three feet of the unit.

👤Our two 20 pound dogs are 888-349-8884 We tried everything we could think of. On the other side of the yard are 4 large German Shepards. It sounded like someone was about to die when they started attacking each other. The Pet Containment System was easy to use. Our dogs are never allowed to go past the safe zone. The potty area is smaller as they used to go out by the fence. I think we have to lower the settings to allow for a bigger area for them. Highly recommend this product.

Brand: Educator

👤Customer service was good and responded to email quickly. After trying to program the collars 3 or 4 more times, they started working correctly. Other reviewers said that you can't hear the audible tone. I can hear the tone when I hold them in my hand and approach the fence. It's a loud sound. If they are working correctly, you should be able to hear the chirps. The programming issue has led to me being upgraded to 3 stars. We did the same programming process many times and it was obvious when they started working right that it wasn't responding correctly. Not very pleased with the product. We bought a second collar. The system has two problems. We returned the second collar because it didn't work correctly, and bought a new one. The replacement has the same problem. When it is close to the wire, it emits a loud chirp. It makes the same sound when you put it on the transmitter. The first collar does not make a sound. The second collar doesn't seem to be programmed. We put it on a small dog. The first collar was tested at this level and it was barely noticeable. My dog got a shock when she approached the fence. The shock level was very strong after we checked it. It gave a very strong shock when we set it to 0, which should be no shock. We know we are programming it correctly because it works with the first collar. The "tone" is not audible to humans. I don't know if it's emitting a tone or not, and I can't time my verbal reinforcement to coincide with it because I can't hear it.

👤The first fence system we put in was not well received by my young Springer. His body responded to the stimulation in a complete rush. It would cause him to fly through the yard jumping at us, biting us and everything in his path. He was too sensitive and we needed to find a better way to adjust him. We found that with the fence system. You can adjust the stimulation on a scale of 1 to 30 for your dog, containment field width, and size. It made a difference. We started him at level one and adjusted his level to six out of 30, which is perfect for him and his temperament.

👤When my Invi$ible Fence system died of old-age, I bought this system and collar. The cost is very good compared to the fence. You can install this system if you have half of a chestnut in your brain. I have 3 large breed/high drive dogs. There are Collars that can be programmed for stimulation level and other items. The dogs do not break through the fence, I had a collar issue and they said "sounds like a battery, we will send you a new one", other companies soak you on batteries.

👤My dog is happy because he knows his boundaries and has the freedom to roam. It's the best system I've found. It's easy to turn off the control box and take him over the line. The collar lasts over 4 weeks. While learning the boundaries, there are lots of adjustments to increase correction. It is easy to install. I highly recommend it. It's worth it.

Brand: Strommi

👤I have used others, but they are of better quality. It's easier to tear because it's a little bit thicker. I bought it. I'm happy to have it. Excellent product to recommend.

👤If you enjoy being on hold while waiting to talk to someone, then buy this if you love having to make immediate trips to your local hardware store, spending Saturdays working on a project that you've already worked on and know that any results of your labor will likely be lost within a few I wasted a lot of time and money trying to make this system work, and I am so frustrated that I am not going to do anything else. There is a background. I grew up in the house we live in. An invisible fence was installed by a local company when we were young. It worked well for over 15 years. There were occasional breaks when we would dig a hole or aerate the yard. Those were easy to fix. No "partial break" issues. I can't find the collar from the old system when we get a dog. I decided to give it a try because buying a new collar was more expensive than the whole PetSafe system. It worked well for about 6 months, then we started having issues with the loop light going off. Sometimes it would turn back to normal by itself. I would turn off the power occasionally. It would work again. Sometimes I would have to plug in the "Break Locator" and after that it wouldn't work again, but only for a while. A new transmitter has been received. For a few months, I worked. Same issues as before. PetSafe told me that it must be a partial break again. There was no way to see any breaks because the wire was buried. PetSafe's break could not pick up any breaks. The signal was strong around the whole loop. I replaced the wire in our yard. I pulled up the old sections. We got a 3rd transmitter in January. The random beeping started last week. I came home and it was loud. I switched the power on/off for the first time. But again, it was beeped. The person on the phone with PetSafe still thinks it's a partial break. We haven't worked on the yard. I don't understand how a wire can break randomly in 3 months. It could be that the wire is wrapped too tight or not tight enough. Really? Why would it work for 3 months and then go out? I don't have anything left to deal with this. I'm looking for an alternative and would love a recommendation.

👤It worked well for the first week. Our dog ran and walked through it without being shocked. Everything was set up without a shock or a beep. It was too unreliable and disappointing.

👤Have a dog. Doesn't work with him. He doesn't care about the shock at level 5. He ignores it after it worked for 1/2 a day.

👤I bought this in June. The battery connections are not the same. The things should last more than 4 months with what they cost.

👤I paid $80 for a collar that didn't have a battery, but I haven't used it yet.

9. PetSafe Containment Perimeter Waterproof Correction

PetSafe Containment Perimeter Waterproof Correction

A circular boundary can be created in just 1-2 hours and can cover up to a 1/3 Acre yard from the placement of the indoor transmitter. There is no wire toBURY. A wireless boundary allows you to protect your pets without building a physical fence. There are 5 levels of correction. The system has 5 levels of static correction. If your pet passes the boundary, static-free return allows your pet to return home. The battery-operated collaboration: You will get a waterproof, battery-operated receiver collar that fits dogs up to 5 lbs and adjusts to fit neck sizes 6-28 in. Long battery life. The PetSafe RFA-67D battery lasts 1-2 months before the low battery indicator warns you to replace the battery. It's accessible. This portable fence can be taken with you when you go camping or travel in your RV.

Brand: Petsafe

👤Our house is a long ranch style with a basement, and the yard is lower on one end and downhill in the back, so we had to try 3 different locations for the main unit. There was a spot where there was a narrow path out of the area with no signal, but it was a long way back to safety, and it would shock you if you went out there. We found a good place to put the unit where the boundaries were a good sweeping circle around the house. The area on the ends is smaller than on the front and rear. It took a long time to train the miniature schnauzer, but now he is comfortable with his boundaries and we can just turn him out to do his job. If we want to do a long walk, he knows when the collar is on and enjoys a leash walk. We would buy this again, but be advised to follow the directions and training procedure, and it would take at least a couple of weeks. Check the signal with your due diligence and make sure you get it right. We put the collar on a stick so we could hold it at dog height and watch the red light without bending over. We could mark the boundaries correctly.

👤I really wanted to use this product. The concept is intriguing. I really liked the idea of no wires. We have a normal property. The house is in the middle and is relatively square. I thought it would work out. I put the transmitter in the middle of the house so the electric field wouldn't go out near the fence. It didn't work. It took a long time to place the flags. The field changes dramatically when the knob is turned to increase or decrease the size. It makes a difference if the transmitter is moved. I thought I could just move the transmitter a foot to the left if I wanted the circle to move a foot to the left. That didn't work. I had to redo the flag placement because it changed the field dramatically. I finally got the flags placed where I wanted them and tested them all after a couple of days. I was ready to start. I started training the next day. The flags were placed close to where the receiver was located. The field was larger. The field changed several times over the course of a week. The change was large. It was not fair to the dogs in some places. I was frustrated and didn't want to use it. I'm sending it back today. Maybe there is some kind of interference that is messing with the signal. It didn't work for me.

👤I was about to install an in-ground fence when I realized there might be wireless units available. It turns out that there are features that I wanted in an in-ground unit, and this one seemed to have them. You must understand the limitations of the wireless nature of the unit and balance that with your needs and the physical layout of your property before committing to wireless. The unit will perform almost as well as an in-ground installation if all agree that it should be installed and configured correctly. I had to setup the system in 1.5 hours. I setup the unit in the following steps, which made sense to me after reading the manual: 1) Measure your property and determine the radius/diameter of the free area desired I found their intersection when I measured the diameters. Determine the point in your house that is the geometric center of your property. This will give you an idea of where to put it in the house. The manual says to install the base transmitter at a few feet off the ground and estimate the boundary line distance to set it to. If your property isn't perfect, walk around your property and test the farthest points that the boundary line should be set to. The base unit setting needs to be adjusted. Test the base unit again. Train your dog. The base is made of plastic junk with a power supply, a circuit board, and an antenna. If you install it and never touch it again, I think it's a good idea, but if you're planning on using it on the go, I think it's a little cheap. The construction of the collar receiver is very good. It's awesome if this type of unit will work for you, compared to the installation hassles of an in-ground system. You will be disappointed if your setup doesn't lend itself to wireless. It is recommended.

10. PetSafe Ground Waterproof Static Correction

PetSafe Ground Waterproof Static Correction

Purchase additional wire to fence in up to 5 acres to secure a 1/3 Acre Yard. There are four levels of correction. A tone-only mode and 4 levels of static correction help keep your dog safe in his play area. Do it yourself installation. You can create a fence that fits your yard on this weekend project. The collar fit is. The UltraLight In-Ground Fence Receiver Collar is waterproof and can fit up to 8 pounds of dogs. For dogs 6 months and older. All your pets should be protected. If you have more than one pet, you should buy as many collars as you need. The PetSafe In-Ground Fence receiver collar will work with this fence system, you can purchase different style collars for every pet in the family. Their pet product experts can help.

Brand: Petsafe

👤The dogs will wear the collar consistently and sometimes they can walk over the wire and not be shocked. I don't trust the system as much as I should, and it's frustrating when we make sure the loop is on aND high, but on the other hand the line is close to our garage and the house. I will use it and test it to see if it works. It was bought in December of last year. I can't put my faith in the system when I know my dog's life is at risk living near major roads. It will never be sure if it will work.

👤Customer service made me tighten the collars even more. They had to care for the holes in their neck for weeks. I went to work on the area after buying some wooden stakes from Home Depot. I staked out the entire area I wanted to fence in. I put the wire around the stakes. I plugged the flags in and put the collar on. It worked for three months. My dog was always out of the yard. I bought new batteries after I ran out. Nope. Tightened the collar. Nope. Upped the strength. Nope. Everything looks good. There were no breaks in the wire. When I test it, the collar emits a sound. My dogs are no longer allowed in the yard. It stops working after three months. I am going to call customer service tomorrow to see if they can give me any advice, but I am sick and this happened during a holiday week.

👤I live on 3 acres in the Sierra foot hills and have had a fence for about 5 years. It recently gave me indigestion and has been fixed with a new transmitter. It really made financial sense to change systems with 3 collars investment. I have a take on the system and some hints. 1) Dogs are not the same. The huskies are persistent with their thigh prey response. Maybe the collars work 80%. Although costly, the gps collar has proven helpful. The Golden/Chow is fence compliant. The wire loop is a weak point for water penetration. Securing wire tightly to other fences can cause stress if less rigid structures are used. You can afford the heaviest wire. Shrink tubing can be used for solders, but mostly not. A wrap of tape holds up wire nuts. After 5 years, the Petsafe supplied caps begin to degrade. These were not reliable. Animals break the wires when buried or tied to fence wire. Settling earth can cause buried wire to be under a driveway. Allow some slack in the wire by placing it in a conduit. The 1/2” Irrigation tube protects the garden areas where you might be digging around. The collar unit is waterproof but has a heavier collar. The plastic snap is broken by dogs. It's hard to find the collar when it comes off. There are four The Model 300-1310 transmitter is my third replacement. The original was destroyed by a lightning strike. They didn't design in surge protection and fuses for this unit. Petsafe cost for a surge protection unit is ridiculous. The aftermarket has worked well. The second unit seems to have an electronic failure. A real pain to fix, even with an electronic tester, because you have to physically inspect thousands of feet of wire and splices with escaped dogs. Reliability and product robustness are only part of the story. Depending on your dogs, it works well. The start-up can be expensive and it can take a long time to fix it. Replacement batteries, lost collars and failed transmitters are maintenance costs. Some relief is offered by aftermarket suppliers. Petsafe could offer more help. Petsafe has always been quick to reply when I have contacted them for customer support. It's not so much replacing reasonably priced replacement parts. It is functional and no better alternative than I have found. It offers some measure of insurance, rather than having to think about replacing lost, stolen or fatally injured pets.

👤Don't expect the dog to learn on their own. The dog will learn quickly if you put it on a fence. If you put it in the yard, it's confusing to the dogs and they might not use the full area. Don't use 24/7. Instructions say to not use more than 12 hours a day. If you don't take these off, the dog's neck will get sores and you'll be out of use until they heal. We know from experience. We try to give them more nights without them than with them, but we don't always take them off at night. They get a break. I'm sure they don't land on the same spot when we put them back on. Our dogs come into the garage at night. If you use a shock collar, I recommend you consider the same plan. There are many settings. If you don't know how to use these, you may return them thinking they don't work. How to turn them on, how to set the shock intensity, and how to set the boundary space are some of the things to learn. Depending on your yard size and dog attitude, you'll want to find the right setting for those things. When I need to charge it, I like the flashing green light and red light. The batteries last a long time. We're very happy with our purchase. We have two big dogs that work great at less than 12 the intensity. If you get these, read the instructions and start at the lowest level. My dog jumps up in the air and barks at level 4. Don't assume your dog needs full intensity, it's not the highest setting. These are great. The older version is better for size and functions, but they are smaller.

👤An 18 month old Doberman requires a lot of exercise. It has been a challenge to prevent him from disappearing into the woods. We take him to the dog park to blow off steam, but that's not always an option. We'd like to provide him with a lot of free space, but it's expensive. I ordered this product after researching the invisible fence. Installation was easy. The yard is large and surrounded by woods. We used up all the wiring. I picked up another 500' of invisible fence wire from the store. We looped 1500 feet of wire around the yard. We had a crack running across the driveway at around the halfway point between the house and the road that we filled with driveway repair goop. I used the edger attachment on my weed whacker to cut trenches and bury the wire in the rest of the yard. We used landscaping staple to secure the wire under the bushes and around the perimeter. Nature should do the rest. I used a drill to twist the wires that cross through the containment area and put them in the garage. The collar was set to be triggered by the transmitter at 5' away from the wire. The collar is set to the lowest level, which my wife and I tried on our arms to see what it felt like. It was time to train after everything was tested. We walked the dog around the perimeter. We would stop at random flags and say "no!", walk past them and then walk close enough to the wire to cause the static. That's all it took. I thought we'd be following the training guide for a month but he won't go near any of the flags if he's chasing birds, rabbits, balls, the kids or our other dog. He's on a leash. We get close to the flags and he stops and lays down. We couldn't recommend this more because it's a game-changer for us and our active boy.
