👤I replaced my old Oregon for the 66i because I wanted something that could communicate. My wife and I are planning to hike and camp in remote areas, and we wanted a way to communicate with rescue personnel should things go wrong. The acquisition of the unit is fast. Text delivery is not fast, but it still gets the job done. It took me about 5 minutes to deliver my message to one of my contacts. Adding tracks and waypoints is a piece of cake because the unit works well with the application. Very happy with the device.

👤We bought this because we often get where there is no cell coverage. It's easy to read in the sun. If you want to use the mount while driving a vehicle, make sure you keep it charged.

👤I barely got to use the gps and satellite services because they were not accessible to me during my camping trip, which was only 10 miles outside the closest town. If they did, my satellite texts would take forever to go through. I would be very worried if I needed this in an emergency. The tech is buggy and awkward, and the satellite services connecting it are unreliable.

👤I live in a place with dense forest and swamps. I have tested it in the forest for 4 months and it is very unreliable. In the vicinity of swamps, the gps will turn wildly from 0 degrees to 90 and even 180 degrees. The arrow is floating in the air. This is a dangerous tool. I lost 3 times. Twice I was saved by the map and compass. I didn't have a map for the third time. I had to take a trail. I would have had to call the emergency services if it had been winter. If you spend a lot of time in the forest, and especially if you don't know the area, stay away from this gps. It is a shame that a gps can't perform in the forest. The gps does not have a lot of reliability.

2. Garmin Multisport Features Grade Adjusted Guidance

Garmin Multisport Features Grade Adjusted Guidance

This is not a medical device and is not intended for use in the diagnosis or monitoring of any medical condition. There are advanced training features that include pace guidance, VO2 max, and training status estimates. Ski maps for over 2,000 worldwide ski resorts, multiple global navigation satellite system (GPS, GLONASS and Galileo) support and built-in sensors for 3-axis compass, and barometric altimeter are just some of the things you can do with topo maps. Not all countries and payment networks are eligible for support for Garmin Pay, music storage with premium streaming service, and more. 👤I changed my rating from 4 to 5 stars because I have been able to make changes to my life based on the new information collected by the F6x. The lock on the gps is super fast outside. The F6x is an all around improvement over the older model and it is a great watch. Coming from a Fenix 3 HR, I was hoping the upgrade/migration process would be easy. The watch face would be the same, like custom activities would just carry over. I figured out how to create a custom activity within Connect, but it doesn't list the custom name like it did with the F3. There are no watch faces that are similar to the F3 HR. The minutes are not inline with the hour, which is my biggest issue with the F6x default digital face. The digital face for the F6 Solar is what is expected, minus the sun gauge in the middle. The F6x Solar face should be a default digital one, with the hours and minutes inline and the other data fields around it, for other F6x users. The Fenix 3 HR has a grey bezel that can be worn with anything, while the F6x is shiny and can be worn with anything. Agreed. Thankfully, the older style band was able to be swapped for the shipping band, which had a nicer feel. If you purchase the pulse ox, it will take the battery from 21 to 15 days. The battery will be taxed from 15 to 10 days if the pulse ox setting is changed. Not a fan of the F6 charging cable and prefer the old style F3 cradle due to cable length and the new cable places the watch in an awkward angle that feels like it will break off or weaken the connection. The F6x is burning 50 to 80 calories more than my F3 HR, because they do the same cardio activity with the same HRM strap. The gym is always the same temp, but not sure if the F6x is accounting for it. In the same conditions as my usual run, there was a 38 calories reduction from F3 to F6. The heart rate was tested against Precor gym equipment and it was the same for all ranges. The watch screen is clear and readable. The screen size and clarity make it possible to see HR from a distance during the same MMA activity. It is less bulky on my wrist than the F3 HR, but would prefer a larger battery. The F6x alarm clock has a stronger sound than the F3. I didn't purchase the solar model due to the fact that it was not as scratch/break resistant as my F3 HR Sapphire model, which had never had any cracks or scratches over the course of many years of continuous use. I hope the comments are read and made better. The F3 HR was life changing for me back in March of 2016 and I want to see the F6x Sapphire in Black in person that comes with the leather strap. The ability to track sleep is not appreciated. Two pictures of my sleep while using the 6x. Even with a pulse ox, the Apple Watch cannot do something like this. Recovering time is required for any physical exertion. After having this watch for more than two weeks now, my only gripe with it is the shiny carbon grey (to me its light grey) bezel and the default digital face needs to be looked at from an otherwise great product. Since 13.1, it has been fixed with issues with connect locking up and not snycing. I have updated my phone to the latest version of the operating system, as well as the latest version of the navigation software. Have been using the 6x without any problems.

Brand: Global Star

👤I used this as a beacon while traveling through Death Valley. It was easy to use and allowed my family and friends to know where I was at all times. I had the feature in case of an emergency, but I didn't need it. It was easy to set up online, but it was more expensive than I thought.

4. Garmin Explorer Satellite Communicator Navigation

👤It's the worst experience. GARMIN's products do not stand up to scrutiny. Two years ago, I bought the device, signed up for a plan, and used it in the woods. It was better to have intermittent text access. A few weeks ago, I signed up for a new premium "freedom" plan, which is very expensive, with an annual fee of $25 and a monthly fee of $65. I get the "activation confirmation" screen on the device after I follow the instructions. I received confirmation of the process being activated twice. Good to go, right? Nothing works on the trail for me. Nothing. Zero email, zero text messaging. It was almost a disaster because we had a medical emergency and needed to get a helicopter to take us to the hospital. The device was useless. You can call customer support. They sent me to tech support to figure out why it wasn't working. It takes them an hour to figure out the problem, which was apparently a firmware update that needed to be installed. He told me that he wanted to show me how to use the device, but that he had no idea why it wasn't working. The Tech suggests I get a new device. He tells me to go back to customer support to get a refund of the $25 annual fee and $65 monthly fee because I won't have another trip for another year. It's like $92.50 including taxes. I can send in the device to see if they can figure it out. I agree with the plan, it's annoying and a waste of time. After that, I return to customer service to get my refund. I told him that it was the least they could do since I didn't have text communication in the woods. We had a phone. The fun part is that the customer support says they won't have an issue. A return! The device did not work for the entire trip. Why? They said I should have visited the website to see if a firmware update was needed before using it again. Isn't that the kind of update that you would think they would push to a device, instead of relying on users to constantly check a website? We would have a chance to get the critical update if we sent an email to them. What would it have cost to apologize to me and give me a refund? I have a lot of Garmin gear and they have been alienating this customer for a long time. It's a shame. The device was within functioning parameters and needed to be updated. At the time of activation, service is non-refundable. I'm sure there are smart and capable people at Garmin who can understand how absurd this situation is, but that intelligence has not made it to their customer support team. This kind of thing is not good for consumers. Sell them something that doesn't work, and then blame the customer for the failure because they didn't do something they were told to do. Well done, Garmin. I hope you have a lot of customers who don't care about customer service. I will never buy another product from you. Ted is a man.

👤I can't tell you how complicated this device is. I have never used one before. I am not tech literate. I wanted to get into 1 with all the hiking I have been doing. Wow, spend all this money and it is basically a brick, without spending more and using multiple programs to actually use it. The interface on this is terrible. I am beside myself trying to figure out a route or a hike trail. If you are by them. There are free topo maps and trail maps, but you have to figure out how to get it onto your gps. The gps doesn't like it when you do. Any of the above tasks are nearly impossible if you don't have a Windows or Mac computer. I plugged away on OSM for free while I was reading. Really? Is there an additional $100 to be given to Garmin to use the thing? You need to buy a trail package or use OSM to load a free one. New technology is not the same as gps. I can't understand why they haven't put a shred of intuitiveness into their software. I want a hiking gps that is not filled with garbage. It has more garbage than a 2020 cell phone.

👤This one is fun and useful. I am a hiker and also a fan of the game. It has a couple of good apps. The App Store only has one prediction for every prediction, and that is stupid. Handling and battery life are both complex. I am going to switch to batteries which you can load with the device.

👤It was refurbished. The accuracy of the gps device is questionable. The operating system is not up to date. Power up time and download speed are slow. The iPhones work better than this unit. I need more precise coords than I can get with a phone.

👤The software update shut down my gpsMAP 66st. It is locked on the software update screen and won't connect with other devices. Online reviews say that the software for the 66 series was messed up. The return label is being printed.

👤I like that you can change the batteries on your own. The function is good. Will recommend someone to buy a nice gps.

👤El gps hasta quitarle. Se reinicia y remplaza los puntos.

Brand: Spot X

👤It's pretty disappointing. I was expecting this unit to send text messages in a reasonable amount of time so I could have a conversation. The average time for text is about 10 minutes. The unit gets cold frequently. The range is about 4' and it doesn't work on the phone. The online map feature can be difficult to use. Satellite connection is lost. I haven't tested it for use in rescue. It's a huge disappointment.

👤I have concluded that the SPOT X is the best satellite texting device, but there's more to the story, and I hope this will save you a lot of time and stress searching for answers that are very hard to find. A lot of people on the internet will give you answers that are certain, but there are four other issues that we can't answer with certainty. There are four reasons why our satellite phones or satellite devices may not work after an event. 1. Satellite phones, texting and location devices are almost certainly going to be destroyed by an event. I own and love my Spot X, one of the best texting devices, but even that company has told me their devices have no protection at all. None of the other satellite companies mention the protection of their devices from EMPs in their websites or in their list of features. Much of the technology for these devices has been around for a long time. To protect your spot X device from an attack, keep it in a good place for a while. Keep it charged and ready. Nobody knows if satellites will be destroyed by an EMP. No one knows. People are making arguments based on how high in the sky a particular satellite system is, but no one really knows. Satellites could be destroyed. It's possible. 3. Satellite phones and devices all require a subscription with a satellite service, and these services must authorize your use every time you use it. The word has been out for a long time that the subscription authorization happens when the satellite is communicating with a ground station. The internet and electricity are used at these ground stations. The satellite companies have been unable to answer my questions about their ground stations. This isn't something the satellite salesman or their tech people know. It is possible that the ground stations will be destroyed by an EMP and that your device won't work because it doesn't recognize you as a subscriber. 4. If the ground authorization station is not destroyed by an EMP event, you will not be able to call or text anyone who has a regular cell phone. I still think it's a good idea to have a satellite texting device like the SPOT X, but the entire system may not work in a disaster. Who knows anyone in their family or friends who has an expensive HAM radio setup and huge antenna that is licensed by the Fed government, if they don't know anyone at all? It's a good idea to keep a backup cell phone in that bag. Good luck, and keep looking up! He will return soon.

Brand: Spy Tec

👤It looks cool. It's not clear how well it works. Is there a monthly and activation payment plan? The description says just track and activation. Sending it back. Being lied to sell a product is worse.

👤My girlfriend was cheating. Sucks. It's better than not knowing the truth. The tracker was easy to set up. The charge lasted longer than other reviews stated. The best feature is the text alert feature, which I would get whenever my ex arrived or left the apartment complex. I placed the tracker under her vehicle. I submitted a form on their website to cancel the service after the job was done. I will change this review to a one-star if they continue to charge my card. There is an update. Within 24 hours, they confirmed my cancellation request. Locating the cancellation form was very easy. I would recommend this product to anyone who is suspicious of infidelity.

👤This was used to track my ex- wife. I suspected her of cheating and caught her visiting her boytoy while I was at work. I can laugh about it now, but at the time I had to know that watching her every move on the Spytech screen was traumatic.

👤It's horrible. I didn't give any fees. Monthly fees are very high.

👤Monthly fees for service were not realized.

👤Customer support and the tracker are both junk. I have had this device for a while and still can't use it. Customer support consists of an online chat that tells you to reset the device and then take it for a drive. I have done that many times. It still shows that I am in New Jersey. I am not in New Jersey. I should have researched other trackers before buying this one. Total waste of money! The service is $25 a month.

👤You need to buy this if you suspect your spouse is cheating. It works well. Ignore the negative reviews because it told me exactly what I needed to know. Those are from people who didn't follow the instructions.

👤You need a monthly subscription to use the tracker, but I didn't hear that part.

👤The setup could not have been simpler and the app is modern and doesn't glitch out. It came with the sim already installed and was not upset about the subscription fees. It didn't detect one of my trips, that's the only issue I've noticed so far. It updated to my location once I arrived, without any notifications. Hopefully this isn't a recurring issue.

👤A very useful product. I took one star because of the high subscription fee. Good quality. Product is worth the money. The battery life is similar.

👤Toutes le technique, précision et durée de la batterie. Seul point. The cacher sous l' auto.

👤Garbage is what these little devices are. It was horrible to get working properly. Send back.

👤POS doesn't work. Tech support keeps telling me that it doesn't work.

8. Garmin Satellite Technology Glove Friendly Touchscreen

Garmin Satellite Technology Glove Friendly Touchscreen

Rugged military-grade construction and a 5” touchscreen display that is 50% larger than the previous model, offers easy viewability, and includes versatile mounting solutions. Some countries regulate or prohibit the use of satellite communications devices, so it's important to send an interactive alert to the GEOS 24/7. ANT+ technology, BLUETOOTH wireless networking, and a direct to device access to BirdsEye Satellite Imagery are all included in the price. You can use tracks and review trip data from the field if you are compatible with the Explore website and app.

Brand: Garmin

👤The headline is a grabber line, only because you have to be the one to decide if it's worth it or not. I wouldn't dare not do my homework on an expensive item, I would read as many reviews and articles as possible. I do that on a hundred dollar item. It shouldn't take you as long as I did to make a decision on what you need or want, if you really know what you're doing. I'd read some articles comparing all the different features on a number of different gps units, especially when it comes to price. I'd ask the questions, "What do I really need and what am I willing to pay for?", if you're going to get more features with more money paid. Ok... I'm not going to go on a hike without taking a map and a compas. I know from experience that things can go wrong, and that you can get in a deep vally with a bunch of over growth and your signal runs out. I think this is the cat's meow. I'm not sure if I would use this more than my map and compass, partly because of all the things it does and partly because it's just that much fun. I'm not going to go over all of the features, but I would like to talk about some of the highlights for me. I don't think that's a deal breaker because I love the touch screen and I know it's more bulkey than the other units. It looks very bright. I downloaded the 7.5 minute maps of the west coast and they are clear enough for me. The 40 foot countour lines are the same as the topo maps I download on the website, I believe. If you get off course, the compass feature will show you by a break in the arrow line, which way you're off. Move over and get back on the line. You can also set a projected waypoint, which you can use to set a course back to it. I'm talking about having to cross a river and having to go out of your way to a bridge and then find your way back to the waypoint you set across the river before you detoured to the bridge. Base camp is a free software. You can set your map type preference, even the 7.5 minute. Then you set up your route. It's time to send it to your Montana 700i. Whatever unit you have. You can review the route you set up on Montana at the base camp. You can search for things on the unit. If you need to use a custom waypoint, you can just type your latitude and longitude over the waypoint one, and save it to your name. If you had that info, this would be great. I almost forgot about one of the most important features, which carried a lot of weight for me, deciding which unit to buy. There is an alert. It's true. They will come and rescue you if you lock into these special satalites. You need to subscribe to the serivce in order to use this feature, but I got the safety one at the cheapest price. It's somewhere around 15. A few weeks or a few months. You can get the more robust subscription, but it will cost more. You can send messages to anyone's email with this service. It could also help you without using the full blown SOS feature. They can reply back to you. It's nice that it's all on a satalite, so you don't need a modem to use it. It will work wherever your gps will work. I think that some of the user guide got a little hard to read, now and then, but for the most part it was very concise and readable. I know I probably didn't need the compass and altimiter features, but in order to get the SOS feature, you need to cough up the cash. Only a few of the higher end units have it. I'm very happy with the gps. I hope I mentioned that it is the Montana 700i. I didn't want to give away the extra "beans" for the 750 model, which has the camera as well. I hope this helps you make a decision. The man is called "MARC Trainor." ''

Garmin Lightweight Handheld Satellite Communicator

It is the responsibility of the user to follow all applicable laws in the jurisdiction where the device is intended to be used.

Brand: Garmin

👤I bought this device for a trip across the Gulf of Mexico and set it up in case of a major emergency. When I needed it, it stopped taking a charge about 20 miles offshore, and I had to take it all the way to Tampa to get it working again. I didn't need it anymore for offshore. I put it in a drawer and forgot about it. I got calls from a debt collection agency in Maine. The service was referred to a collection agency by Garmin because they wanted me to keep paying. For what? 50 bucks? They call every few weeks. Just called again. Over a year has passed. I don't own that boat anymore. The gift keeps giving. There is a So no. I wouldn't recommend this device to anyone, and I'm not going to spend an hour on the phone with a collection agency in Maine trying to get the device. Shame on them.

👤The site is in such disarray that you can't access it if you try to log on or register. There is no chance to determine how well this device will work since it is not mandatory for you to subscribe to the service.

👤It works as advertised and is a must have for adventures.

👤It's a must have for anyone going on a long trip.

👤Have been using this device for a long time. The reception has never had any issues with it. When I am out there, leave a peace mind for my wife. It must have for anyone who loves the outdoors.

👤I got a gps device to coordinate my hike. It has been barely functional and disappointing. It's rugged, lightweight and useful for locating myself on paper maps. The battery life is poor, it takes 5 to 30 minutes to type one text message, and it does not send tracking points or receive messages nearly as reliably as I expected. The battery life is short and the settings seem to not extend it. It would be easy to turn the device off occasionally. When the device is turned on, received messages are returned to sender, instead of being delivered. If the device is on, family can reach you. It's hard to send a tracking point when the device is not on and it takes a bit of time. If you turn the device off, the "share map" message feature will not work. The speed and distance estimates are useless with 10 minute tracking. I expected better, but it works for $250. Satellite data connection and rugged case for your phone will be cheaper upfront, easier to use, and probably just as reliable.

👤It is a great tool for safety conscious people. It worked well for me when I was out of service range for a portion of my motorcycle trip. The accuracy is amazing. preset messages would be sent to my contacts to let them know where I am. I looked at the gps link this unit sent. It was not more than a few feet away from where I was standing. The unit is light. Once you spend a few minutes with it, it's easy to use and the battery lasts a couple days.

👤I bought a refurbished unit to save money and get a cheaper warranty. I have been hunting in Colorado in some rugged high country and in canyons. There is a Every message I have sent out has been received. It works as advertised and I can message my wife every few hours. She can see where I am. Cheap investment for safety.

👤We used it for the first time in the Sierra Nevada. We were able to get a message out. We were happy to have it with us.

👤It is easy to activation. I like the fact that I can use my phone to send messages. It is a refurbished unit for now. I hope that continues to be true and that it doesn't fail me, should I ever need to use it.

👤You can get global communications in this price range. I used to sail offshore. As promised, it worked.

👤I love this product because it gives me peace of mind when my daughter is outdoors.

👤The package is light and durable. Excellent reception from the satellite. Excellent battery life. The text message feature is great. The new generation of emergency transponders are represented by the inReach Mini.

Brand: Garmin

👤I have been on a frustrating activity tracker and smart watch journey. I was looking for something that didn't seem right. I like to hunt, hike, bike, and occasionally run. An accurate altimeter, barometer, andGPS are things that are very important to me. The first thing I bought was the Fenix 3 HR. I thought I had found the one that was impressive in the beginning. The issue was the altimeter. It wasn't accurate. I waited for the Fenix 5. Same issue. It was worse than the 3. I was told to put the watch in warm soapy water. I continued to experience the same issue even after this seemed to reset it back to normal. I decided not to put my watch in a warm glass of soapy water every night. The 5 plus appeared to solve the issues. But then, garmin made a change to the Instinct. This watch has caught my eye so far. It is light and comfortable. The Fenix watches are large and heavy to wear. You forget you are wearing a watch. The features are great. It has everything I need. I don't care about some of the measurements the Fenix gives you. Some people have commented on the display. I don't agree. It would be similar to E Ink from a book. It is a pleasure to look at and readable. It is black and white. The keys are easy to use. The menus are very fast. You can use the settings to get where you want. The buttons are very good and I have not accidentally pressed one while bending my wrist. The accuracy of the ABC sensors is still being tested but so far it is looking great. I can not say enough about this watch. It seems like a great model from Garmin that will fit in with the niche hunting/outdoors market. I will give an update in a month. I have had this watch for a few weeks and have taken it on several hunting trips. I am very impressed with this watch. This watch is light and comfortable. I think I forgot how nice it is to wear a watch that you forget is attached to your wrist, because I have been wearing heavier watches over the years. I didn't like wearing my watches to bed. I would get into my wrist because it was too bulky. Tracking seems to be accurate. When you are tracking an activity, the attitude has been accurate. What I like about this watch is it is comfortable. It is lightweight and responsive. Menus and screen. The buttons arecessed to avoid Accidental Presses. I only have a few complaints and suggestions to improve the watch. When you lock the keys, you can hold any button for a short time in order tounlock the watch. The amount of time it takes to hold the button is too long. It takes about half a second for it to be unlocked currently. This is a small complaint. The screen is a proprietary material. I would like it to be a display made of sapphires. You can't tell if there is a screen protector on the face because I put one on it. The battery indicator should show a percentage as opposed to the 5 bars in a battery indicator. It would be nice if they changed that. Please ask me questions. I would be happy to answer. Over the years, I've done a lot of research on these watches and believe I have finally found the perfect watch for my needs. I've used all of the watches. This is my favorite watch. An absolutely great watch is still available. Every single day, this watch is on my wrist. It is still very comfortable. I have had a couple issues that I will address. It is a button on the watch. The watch was still under warranty. The watch was replaced quickly. They received an A+ for their customer service. I would be SOL if it had gone out after the warranty period. I think it is a one year warranty. I use this watch a lot. It is always worn. It has held up very well. I still think it is an amazing watch for the price. The lock feature on the watch is one of the issues I stated in the review. You can lock the screen. It is very easy to get it unlocked by bending your wrist and hitting a button. This could be a simple fix. The amount of time required to press a button is not a problem. It doesn't happen very often. It can be very frustrating if it does during an activity. This will be my last update. I will buy another watch whenever this one dies because it has been an amazing watch for me. I hope the watch continues to be improved. All the boxes are checked for my needs.
