👤This has worked out well. garmin has been used for over 20 years and it is as good as any. The screen is clear and it interacts with my phone in a nice way. My eyes are focused on the road. The garmin is driving a truck.
👤The item didn't work. The item was refurbished. Customer service promised to overnight as it is needed for work but they didn't. Not happy with the company that sold it.
👤Muy compra y excelente calidad.
👤I like using my phone.
👤I could not do anything because my item never worked, I had to charge it on my truck for almost a day, and it kept turning and flashonf. I was trying to understand how my gps worked when I saw a renewed review. Don't waste your time trying to save money to get a bad item.
The RV and camping enthusiast needs a navigator. RV navigator with high-resolution 6 95” edge-to-edge display. The size and weight of your RV are taken into account to find the best route for your vehicle. Always check the appropriateness of route suggestions and defer to the posted road signs. Road warnings to keep you aware of steep grades, sharp curves, weight limits and more. A directory of RV parks and services is included along with integrated content from Ultimate Public Campgrounds, Plan TripAdvisor, and more. Pair with your compatible phone to get access to hands-free calling and notifications, and also to have voice-activated navigation for convenience on the road. You can download the free app to access live traffic and weather.
👤This was what I needed after two nightmare trips up the East Coast of the USA using other map products and even a Truck gps on my phone. This thing is different from everything else I have tried because it allows you to define how much propane you have on board so that it is precise for tunnels. If you use the drive app, the traffic seems to be more accurate. I can't say the unit ever used the built in traffic feature, but it did an excellent job of calculated true time in traffic and actual arrival times. I liked the pictures of the lane and the street signs. I like the driver assistance alert, which is fun when the light is short and you are pulling 13k pounds, and the reminders to turn off propane due to state law. I haven't tried voice recognition yet because it asked me if I wanted to re-route to save 90 minutes when the unit alerted me of a traffic event. I said "yes" and it re-routed my voice. I found the up-ahead feature to be very useful, as it shows gas stations, rest areas and RV parks at every exit up ahead. It made me feel more confident that the truck would make it to the next fuel stop given how much fuel it uses while towing, and it was useful to keep the kids content so they knew when the next bathroom stop was. I can't use software like my built in phone navigation in the future. This is a life saver for an RV. It was well worth the price and saved me a lot of grief on my first road trip. Good job!
👤This is an upgrade from the nuvi 3597LMTHD. I use it to tow a travel trailer and also use it in a high-roof van conversion. The special features for RVs seemed to be a good reason to switch. It was disappointing initially. There are RV specific features and the screen is bigger, but not dual orientation. The user interface seems clumsy compared to the 3597 The internet link is useful, but limited since it only does the ocassional updates. Compatibility with the BaseCamp program is more important to me. I use BaseCamp on my laptop to combine scenic routes, gas stops and friend visits that are not possible with direct navigation. It can be done on the 780, but it's much easier in BaseCamp, where you can sit comfortably with a larger computer screen, access to a search engine and have no battery life limitations. I haven't thought about it yet, but having the link work for everything seems to be a great feature improvement. The RV780 is able to connect to the computer via the mini-usb/usb cable. It works with the Express. Waypoints are recognized by the BaseCamp program and can be transferred. Didn't transfer saved routes. I tried it with internal memory and it works well with the 3597, so I know the file is good. Before purchasing, I checked with Garmin Support and they said that it wouldn't be compatible. The agent I spoke with was knowledgeable. BaseCamp doesn't support the "Propane Tanks" setting in the RV780 vehicle profile, so those have to be deleted on the RV780 for the routes from BaseCamp to load. It's not a fix. The agent said that the propane tank can be re-applied after the routes are loaded. They have known about it since the RV770 does it, but don't have a real solution. The navigation, map, and feature search functions work well despite BaseCamp compatibility. The larger display makes it easier to read the map while driving and the extra resolution makes orientation ok, but the touchscreen seems not to be responsive as the 3597 is. The speaker is loud and clear. The unit is designed to be installed in the vehicle. It takes a counter-intuitive pull on the mount latch to remove it. It was designed to stay on the dash and do as much as possible without a computer. I can see how it's a good idea for a lot of people. I haven't used the app yet. I got a separate gps unit because I'm not dependent on cell phone coverage or data plan charges, but I may experiment and see how useful it is. Back on the road. As I learn more, there will be more updates.
The large, easy-to-read 7” touchscreen has a bright, crisp, high-resolution display. You can get a custom truck route based on the size and weight of your truck, and you can see upcoming bridge heights, sharp curves and more. You can view parking information along your route. You can use the Preloaded Truck & Trailer Services directory to find truck stops. Load-to-dock guidance shows potential loading zones or storage lots when approaching your destination. See popular routes used by fellow drivers. You can use the voice assistant to talk to the navigator while keeping your hands on the wheel. If you want to use the ELD for hours of service recording, you need to pair the eLog with the app on your phone or tablet.
👤On a couple of occasions, I have been able to see the Live Traffic showing areas that have been cleared of traffic. I would suggest a "Trust, but verify" approach to avoid unnecessary re-routing, by pulling up the route on the maps to see if the problem area still exists. I have used this gps for over 50 thousand miles and it is still reliable and useful. The Live Traffic feature has saved me from delays on multiple occasions. The most recent example of how I was able to make an on time delivery is the video I uploaded. The same traffic jam that caused the Amazon Truck to be stuck is the same jam that the gps helped me avoid. I decided to return the atlas maker's gps system and purchase a new one from Garmin after having a bad experience with it on a route to an unfamiliar area. On a second run from the same point of origin to the same destination, but this time with the same car, what a huge difference! I arrived at my destination with a lot less stress in a lot less time because the route was longer in distance, but it didn't take me through small towns. I really appreciated this after the atlas maker's gps told me to take the ramp to the road I was already on at a most crucial time when I was 25 miles away from Rockaway, NJ. I was told to take a U-turn if possible after I was put onto small town roads by the atlas maker. U-turns are not allowed when driving a truck at most carriers, and I would get fired if I did them. The preferred "Trucker Paths" feature of the Garmin is great and I like how it can navigate you right to the trucking dock locations at many destinations. If you're a professional truck driver, you should buy a gps device.
👤Very happy with the gps. I usually don't leave reviews, but I had to for this. It is very user friendly and easy to use. The mount has not fallen off yet and it seems to be accurate. I was debating on getting the bigger screen but I am glad I didn't because I don't think it's worth the money. I also drive a straight piped 379 and the speaker could be a bit louder. I can hear it clearly. 10/10 would buy again and recommend. Upcoming traffic, weight stations, weight limits, and other things are warned by it. This is the one if you are on the fence.
👤I had the new OTR 1000 about 10 days ago. Was bought with points. The map detail is better than my dezl 780. I can see more information with a larger display. I had to pay a one time fee of $4.99 to use a different app on my phone. They use a different phone app to give you traffic and weather data for free. The mount is stronger. It comes with a ball mount and the gps. I refer loads as well as run hazmat loads. The arrival time is the same as my 780. They are using a new type of mapping software that seems to be better than the dezl units.
A built-in dash cam and powered magnetic mount make the all-in-one 7” truck navigator a must have. Alert for upcoming bridge heights, steep grades and more are included in the custom truck route. Live services, such as traffic and weather, can be accessed via the Smartphone Link app. Easy Break Planning with timely notifications and a Truck & Trailer Services directory, is a great way to plan a break. Control dzl cam with your voice, and enjoy hands-free calling, smart notifications, and built-in wi-fi for easy map and software updates without a computer.
👤This thing is better than my old one. Within a year, that broke. There are unknown causes. It's built strong. Good mount. I use my phone to get traffic and weather updates. The picture is perfect. The sounds are clear. This thing is highly recommended by me.
👤I'm a truck driver and this is the best gps I've ever seen.
👤This is my first truck version and I have owned many other products. I own a Rand McNally 540 and it is blowing away. You can only input it manually with my voice recognition. The Farmin has a car mode so it acts like a normal gps without the truck restrictions. This thing has a dash cam that can be used to add a wireless background check. I believe the normal cost is 499.00. I refurbished this for a third of its original price and it is in great shape.
👤The refurbished unit was several hundred less expensive than the new one. We added a 3 year warranty just in case. The unit is new, but you can see a few scratches on the connection. The camera came with Micro SD cards. The forward warning and lane assist features are useful. We use it in a van. The dash cam quality is decent, but not as good as a cheaper off brand dash cam that we have in another van. It's nice to have everything in one unit, it's nice to not have to clean up the ports. The gps has worked well and was updated to the latest maps. When you first turn it on occasionally, it will restart, but you can turn it off and on again. It works well for the rest of the day. The rebooting is what they do when they have a few of these. A nice big gps has some nice features. Sometimes you have to change a route because it's not a map from the internet. In the middle of no cell service, the gps will work where other data based devices will not. If you do service and need a way to track vehicles without monthly fees or just want a nice gps for use, then this will do the job.
👤This is something I will never do again. The gps is garbage. I can not say it differently. The screen was not working. It took me a couple of days to get the updates. The gps can't find Atlanta GA. I got both maps with the update. Both North America and Europe. There is a I was happy about it. There is a Nothing is working. I am a professional truck driver. I take this with me on the road. On the first day, it could find the address of the sender and the address of the receiver. I tried again the next night and nothing happened. I tried to enter my home address, but nothing came up. The only thing that worked was to get to the truck stop. There is a I said not entirely. After an hour or two, it stopped working. It will be great if you get a warning on the screen that you have to press and accept to move on to the next screen. After a while, it will turn off and ask you to confirm your vehicle information, and then it won't continue to stop at the truck stop that you have selected. I am so disappointed.
The TruckGPS System must work based on the active gps signal. The built-inGPS chip works without a network, so you don't have to rely on your phones and cellular connection and the phone is free to use. USA Canada Mexico Maps, which has 2D / 3D map display, has been pre-installed with theLifetime Map updated for Free. If you need to update the map, please contact them. Europe, UK, Ireland, Australia, and so on are downloaded but not pre-installed. The 7-inch high-resolution touchscreen has a high resolution of 800 x 480 and 8 gigabytes of memory. There is plenty of room for you to store the maps and materials in the truck gps navigation system. It is also visible in the sun, making driving safer. The Voice Steering System of the gps navigation system helps you avoid danger. Upcoming Sharp Turn Alerts, Speed Limit Reminders, Red Light, and High-Speed Camera Voice Notification are all received. The roads which have width restrictions or height restrictions can be avoided with a custom truck route. After receiving it, please use the car charging station to fully charge then use it. The XGoDY 7 inch gps navigator has regular maps upgrades and questions. Their company has a professional technician team that can help customers. If you have a question about this product, please contact them. Within 24 hours, they will reply to you. After receiving it, please use the car charging station to fully charge then use it. 👤Get it, over the road trucker review. It is affordable and does everything the expensive gps does. I have owned this gps for about 2 months and it has not let me down. It tells you how fast you are going, how far from the next waypoint you are, and the time of arrival. Time zones are adjusted from Satelite. It is not worth paying $400 for a gps when you can buy a better one. It is good to know that if I do update it will be free. Just buy it! You can beat it for $70 bucks. 2 months owner!
👤I have been using the gps for two weeks. It was worth the money spent. I use it in my semi and it has taken me where I need to be. Great purchase.
👤I replaced my old gps with a big screen one and it works great! Offline maps help in a rural area but nothing compares to having a real gps device. I put the screen in the corner of the car because it doesn't interfere with driving and because it doesn't take up a lot of space in the window. There are so many options for navigation on the touchscreen that it is very sensitive. This size is better than the 5. Audio is clear and can focus on the road. It was a great GOS for the price and definitely recommend it.
👤This gps is not worth anything. The routes are so old that they are unreliable and trying to update the maps is a joke. The clock is not set to the correct time. The device turns itself off after 20 minutes of use. The cheap plastic sun visor is a joke, it doesn't fit together properly, and it snaps when you try to attack it with the gps. The money was wasted.
👤I had to use a magnifying glass to see the print and icons because the instructions for setup were poor. Adding to Favorite addresses was very confusing and I was only able to input two addresses with no names.
👤The product is inferior compared to the other products. Poor mapping doesn't allow high number addresses. I was impressed with the looks but not worth the money. I bought a new one after I sent my old one back.
👤I thought I should try it closer to home after purchasing this for a future trip. The cup wouldn't fit on my dashboard or the front window. I used an aftermarket holder. I was about halfway to my destination when it stopped. It won't turn back on after I messed with it. I should have given the money to charity.
👤I bought a gps for a trip to visit relatives. I'm not very tech savvy and it was hard to find alternative directions when I inputed my out-of-state address locations. My 35 year old tech savvy son had issues. If you have a map route to follow, the gps adjusts nicely to route changes along the way. Common sense tells you which way to go when you pull off the road for gas or a rest area, even though the gps only indicated the wrong direction in a couple of minor spots. I like the fact that it confirmed the road you were on, as the road signs were often not posted. It advises you of the correct speed limit. I plan to input the next address after I reach the destination, as it seems to pick up the town or route location on the gps just fine. The sun visor was too small. I would recommend this device.
CUBE will ring if you press find and use the app to show last known location on a map. If you leave something behind, there is a separation alarm. Free lifetime map updates and Live traffic are included with the 5.0” truck navigator. Alert for upcoming Bridge heights, weight limits, and custom truck route for the size and weight of your truck. The display resolution is 480 x272. There is an easy break plan with notifications for breaks and road signs to suggest nearby restaurants. Truck stops by brand and amenities are included in the truck and trailer services directory. Control dzl with your voice, and enjoy built-in wi-fi and hands-free calling. This device is compatible with Windows and Mac OS X.
👤I dislike this device. Disappointed with the navigation. 1. The designated Class truck routes are not shown. 2. It doesn't show the bridge heights. I need these two items in my gps device. The information is on my maps. The reviews of the gps manufacturers were not as good as the reviews of the other manufacturers, and I believe that the information and technology is not available with any gps manufacturers. The database will be very successful if a product is created with it. The fit and finish is what I like. Thank you, but you are disappointed.
👤The features are great, the display is great, and the main part is great. The navigation on garmins is terrible. It will usually bring you a longer way even with the shortest route applied. In truck mode, even with the size of the vehicle entered, it brings you down a lot of dead end roads. There is no need to purchase a separate unit for the better maps. This may be the case in Maine and New Hampshire, but not in other states.
👤The gps works well. I like that you can set it up for doubles and triples, I also like that it works better with my phone, and that it's easy to use with my phone. So far, it is very accurate.
👤This is a good tool for drivers. I was going to be delayed by 2 hours in Idaho due to construction. I was routed around it. It will warn you about accidents, construction, objects in the road, and other things that have been reported to it. The speed limits in Montana are not correct. It shows 70mph for back highways and 65 for freeways, but it has a state border off by about 4 miles. It needs some map updates. It will show you the weather in your route. A gps is not a rule. Use common sense and always read highway signs.
👤I would like to see a version of the maps for commercial trucks. The only way I could use a gps device was with my phone. The product does not recognize new roads or buildings. There is nothing in the new warehouses according to Garmin. That's where the maps come in. In Phoenix AZ, a new stretch of loop 202 going south is open since December, but not for Garmin. I wanted to get on I55 North from Damen Ave but my new $300 gps said "No trucks", which is not true. The navigation system should be less than $75. It is important for Garmin to keep its maps up to date. I spent $300 and updated my maps to be able to find a warehouse that was built more than a year ago. I'm planning to return the gps because it's not very accurate. I'll check out a Rand Mcnally, hopefully it's better than the other one.
👤This gps has gotten me in trouble with taking me down places. If I worked days I would be screwed at times from using this gps sent me down roads with cars parked on both side in residential areas.
The navigator has a dual-orientation display and map updates of North America. You can ask for directions to places you want to go with the help of the voice assist feature on your compatible phone. Road trip features include a HISTORY database of notable sites, a U.S. national parks directory, and millions of Foursquare POIs. School zones, sharp curves, and speed changes help encourage safer driving. You can access live traffic, fuel prices, weather, parking, and smart notifications when you pair this navigator with your compatible phone. Drivers should only use the function when they are safe to do so. You can ask to play music, listen to audiobooks, hear the news, and more while you keep your hands on the wheel and eyes on the road if you pair the Garmin Drive app with your compatible phone. Without a computer, map and software updates can be made. There is an extra charging port for phones, tablets or other electronics included.
👤I bought this for my job. I drive from site to site all day long. When you tap on the client site address buttons in the app, you will be taken to the maps app and the addresses will be automatically inserted. I wanted this gps to integrate with my phone so I wouldn't use it. A special team was working with the internet giant. You can share maps with the gps via the app. Great. I can easily shoot those addresses to the gps device. I thought so. That's fine and well, but it's the worst. Absolutely the worst. The drive to work in the morning was the first test. I was told to take all of these. I know how to get there. I used the gps to zoom out on my way to work. It was going to the ocean. The routes the gps received were all over the place. It never took me to the right place. I would fire everyone involved. If I abandoned the export-to-Drive method and just copied and pasted the addresses from Maps to the Drive app directly, it worked without issues at least 90% of the time. I still had issues with the gps search telling me that addresses don't exist manually. The same input is found on the maps. It took me 20 minutes to the northeast of town when the actual location was 5 minutes away, which was fine with the maps. The address was entered directly into the gps. I would advise you to double check all of your addresses and routes before you even start driving, because it will save you an hour and a half plus fuel costs. I gave it 3 stars because of my reason for buying. You only have one job to find addresses. If I enter a valid address and you can't find it, you failed at your job. The larger screen, the8", would be a good place to burn the extra cash. It's stopping for no reason. I've been within a few turns of my destination and the gps just stops. It shows the map, but not the navigation. The unit is completely frozen when I pull over. I have to power cycle it and then enter the address again. I'll stop at a gas station for gas and the unit will stay on 12v and I should be fine. Not always. The gps screen can be turned off. The power button does not do anything. The power button is not important. I have to plug the power back in and start navigation again after I have unplugged the power completely. There's still full current to the plug it's connected to. It's been just shy of a month since my last update. I had no freezing or unresponsiveness issues for about two weeks. I can only assume that the update has fixed something. When the power is cut, the device shuts off. If you hit the power button, it will be hard to turn it back on. Hold the button for a while and wait. It will turn on. It takes time to do it. There is a That's pretty conclusive for me. I think I'm done. Good luck with the way people drive.
The size and weight of your RV are taken into account to find the best route for your vehicle. Road warnings to keep you aware of steep grades, sharp curves, weight limits and more. 👤Did you ever get told to drive down a road that you shouldn't be on, even if you are taller, shorter, or have more hair? This one doesn't do that. Since we had the 785 to try to make sure it wouldn't take us down hazardous roads, low bridges, or into a loop, we have put in many destinations. This one beat some of the websites. We love it. We have confidence in the gps. The camera, lane departure, and collision avoidance are things we look forward to checking the next time. Launching the software for the phone was the only problem we had. The screen was stuck and we called them. The EULA wasn't visible so they told us to reduce the size of the fonts. It worked after that. It uses your contact list to make and receive calls. The mount is strong. We are using a piece of electronics to put on the dash. Plug it in with the cord provided, because that's what it needs for traffic.
👤I have had the RV-785 for less than a week and have not yet used it on a lengthy trip, but I wanted to relay some initial observations after using it around town. I will comment on BaseCamp and our upcoming trip, as well as use it to plan our trip. 1. It seems like trip planning is accurate. I don't have any experience with any other route planning software or a gps device. Once some time was spent figuring out that program'sUI and how to get the completed route into the RV-785, BaseCamp was easier to plan and modify. 2. The dash cam is not as good as I had hoped. The narrow viewing angle is disappointing, but it will probably be ok. The recorded video has a noticeable "jello effect" on it. I'm using a supplied mount that is not really strong enough to reduce the effect. There is a brief break in the video, probably only a frame or two every minute or so. I haven't checked to see if the interval is random or not, but it is noticeable. I haven't tested the camera in low light or night time. 3. When the lane divider is a dashed line or the road is curved, lane departure warnings do not work, although forward collision and lane departure alert work. I will be testing those features more thoroughly on our upcoming trip. 4. It would be nice if links posted in points of interest were active links, opening the web page in the browser, but maybe this criticism should be directed to the POI providers. It would also be a plus if there was an integration with the earth. I plan to keep the device at this point and possibly change the review after our upcoming trip of around 1600 miles. We are not using any of the RV specific functions yet, but will report back with observations if we do.
👤It was reliable and accurate when I used it on a trip across several states with a 5th wheel. Voice recognition makes it easier to input information. The design of this gps is a good one. The window shows which lane to exit from.
Easy to use gps navigator with connected features and bright display The display resolution is 600 x 600 There are maps of North America with free lifetime updates. The battery is rechargeable. The battery life can be up to an hour. When using the free link app on your phone, it provides real time services, such as Live traffic and parking. Voice activated navigation, smart notifications, and Bluetooth calling. This device is compatible with Windows and Mac OS X. It's built in wi fi for easy map and software updates.
👤Don't buy this product, you will get the shaft twice. The device I received did not charge. It wouldn't work if plugged in. I wanted to swap it for a new one. The seller wants me to pay back the shipping for a bad product. There is an update. I didn't take my own advice. I bought a second one and it stopped working in 4 months. I had the same issue when I first got it. The model is terrible. This model should be embarrassed by the company.
👤I have a second device. I was very happy with the device when I first got it. It has become unreliable after several map and software updates. It will route you through weird loops and ignore obvious routes. It added a 25 - 50 mile loop after one recalculation that was out of the way of the original route. The only way to keep it from doing weird things to the route is to put edit points all along the route. Why don't you have a unit that lets you plot your own route? It does not calculate remaining distance accurately. You will be 11 miles from your next turn and then it will change to 18 miles from your next turn and suddenly show you have 7 miles to go and then switch to showing you have 300 feet to go. Sometimes when you get back on the freeway, you can drive right onto the ramp, but it will want to go across the bridge to the other side, so you have to do a weird U-turn and go back to the freeway. When I first bought it, it wasn't doing this. I felt I could rely on it. I don't trust it and that leads to a problem. Even if it's only a 1 or 2 megabyte download, this device won't let you do updates unless it's connected to a power source. This is ridiculous, what is the point of having internet if you can't download anything? I don't think you need to use the software when you are driving in the real world.
👤There is a curve ahead. The screen will keep telling you that there are lots and lots of them. This would be useful in cars that do not have a mirror, the rest of us can just look ahead and know that all roads are not straight. No? The display will fill with a Can We Find parking screen and it will not go away unless you hit the touch screen and it will come back with each recalculation ensuring you need to take your eyes off the road to address it. Do you like hearing "please drive to the highlighted route" when you start a journey? You can't turn off the curve warnings or parking warnings because you can't turn off this. "When possible, please make a U-turn" will be repeated about every 5 seconds if you want to pull down a side street. Don't bother if you want to take a look at alternative routes if you are driving that winding country road with all the curves and curve warnings. As you zoom out, the map will suppress road views. It will only show the road you are driving in isolated areas. This is what you get after a long time.

👤The unit arrived on time. It was easy to set up. There are a lot of things to like about this. This unit is one of the few that can accommodate a car, RV and Truck. You can set it up for RV/truck and enter all the important information, including length, weight, and weight restricted bridges. It warned me that the bridge on my route II was well below my height restriction. It's very helpful when one encounters unforeseen detours. If you deviate from the units chosen route, it will quickly figure out that you chose a different route and it will calculate from that point. Unlike my car, that insists that you make a U turn and follow its stated route regardless of what you want. There is a Windows browser that will allow you to do internet searching on your phone. I haven't tested this. If you're interested, it plays music and videos. The only negatives I found are 1. Updating maps might be a problem for MacONLY users. I checked in with customer service to update my maps and received a nice response that made perfect sense and assured me that I had the latest maps. Customer service seems to work well. Well, but. I haven't tested it yet. The programing does not include a GO home button. It is possible to put your home into the Favorites, but in my case there was not enough room to enter the complete address, which makes it look incomplete. Adding a Proper GO HOME button would allow for a few more characters. This is a good deal when you compare it to units that cost more.
👤I bought this for my class. I like the features of the unit period. The map ware here is outdated and has been upgraded. Don't buy it because it's useless. Get a navigation device. Save yourself the stress. It has nice features. One site it directed me to was a free map upgrade site which turned out to be a major scam. Not happy.
👤I had to drive to Lakewood, CO for two weeks. The device arrived before the expected date. I was surprised by the features, updated maps, settings, on-road navigation, modifying routes, alternate directions, Facebook, cell phone connection, etc. Performance quality distinguishes performance in cutting through confusion and excel in tedious searches. The device was an important contributor to the success. I always try something new. A+.
👤The Ohrex gps was bought to replace the old one which could not be updated due to low memory. I was attracted to the large screen of the Ohrex model, and the reasonable price, and assumed that the electronics would be common between gps's these days... We followed the directions in the manual and went for a drive in our hometown after we received the Ohrex gps. The Ohrex was not as accurate as our old one. When traveling to large metropolitan freeway areas, we use our gps to help us negotiate large lanes of traffic that are full of other vehicles. During our initial test of the Ohrex, it missed our city hall address by 5 blocks and took us to the wrong side of the building due to one-way streets. We might have become lost if we had traveled in an unfamiliar city. I've never heard a voice say to take a "slight left turn" on the highway approach to a town. Left turn. What is a light left turn? When entering the town on a state highway, the Ohrex directed us off of that HW and routed us through a tight residential area. I didn't care for that at all. The clock wouldn't re-set to the correct local time even if I used a different time zone. I don't like to complain, but I wouldn't trust the gps to take me through an unfamiliar metro area. I just ordered a big name gps through Amazon, hoping it will be the same as the older one we can no longer use.
Every fishing environment has a rugged design. Transmit power: 200 W (RMS) and frequencies: 50/77/83/200 kHz. The handheld has a high-sensitivity gps receiver and a 2.6-inch color display. It's perfect for water sports and boating. BlueChart g2 is a built-in. The U.S./Bahamas has coastal charts with shorelines, depths, and more. A built-in 3-axis tilt-compensated electronic compass and barometric altimeter is included. Share your waypoints, tracks, routes and geocaches with other compatible device users.
👤The garmin 78sc worked for a week, then got an error message that it couldn't unlocks maps, and then they said garmin knew about the problem and a fix was being worked on.
👤I have used this device extensively, including over a 47 day kayak trip from Anacortes, Washington to Petersburg, AK. It's an awesome tool when it's functioning correctly. There are some design defects that need to be fixed. 1. The rubber covers for the power andusb ports leak salt water and can cause problems. Positive enclosures that never leak are what my other IPX 7 devices have. 2. The device consumes more power when loaded with a lot of waypoints. I was able to see this over a long period of time as I deleted routes and waypoints. As data grows, it never gets to sleep because the software loop always evaluates everything rather than what's currently relevant. 3. The unit OFTEN was locked up. This would require removing the protective cover and restarting. It's not something you want to do in windy conditions. I stopped using this feature eventually. I love it when it works. Before paddling on salt water, I have coated protective covers with Aquaseal. I have to remove it before I can connect it to the computer. They are very close to a great design and I want to love it. Wouldn't it be great if they listened to their customers better? January 7, 2020. I would like to add to my review. Over 34 days, last summer, circumnavigated the island by kayak. I loaded my gpsMAP with a lot of data. While following tracks the battery never locked up. I think software changes have fixed my complaints. Poor design of port covers will leak.
👤I bought the product to replace my old handheld 76c. It was a workhorse and the maps were small. The device could be used with WP. I was disappointed that the charts had no detail, like buoy markings, when I purchased the 78sc. I only had a giant marker on the scale of a small scale chart, because making scale larger resulted in the loss of any useful landmarks. Tech support said to me "what do you expect with a handheld and limited memory?" Over a decade later? The 76c is not a replacement for the 78sc, which is a handheld marine chart. The screen size is smaller than the older model. I would not recommend this device for use in the water.
👤Over the years, I've used a number of Garmin handhelds. I bought this unit to replace the failed one. The 78sc was expected to be a decent replacement. This is not the case. The hardware seems very good, but the software is terrible, especially compared to the oldGPSMAP 76. After I downloaded my old routes and waypoints, I tried to use the unit on my sailboat for a race around the cans. After loading up a route consisting of A, B, C, and A, the unit did not flip to the next waypoint, once a waypoint is reached. I couldn't find a way to flip it. It's difficult to explain, but you will find it annoying. TheGPSMAP 76 was superior in this area. There are two more You can't tell on the navigation page what your next point is. Unlike the 76, it is not displayed. There are 3 more The "active route" page doesn't give any information about the route's waypoints, just the names. Again, unlike the 76. The points are listed in order of distance, not alphabetical. It is hard to find what you are looking for if you have a lot of waypoints. There are five When you are on a sailboat in moderate seas, the speed andvelocity made a good jump. The 76 allowed you to take averages for a longer period of time. The option is not available on the 78sc. The unit is hard to read when the backlight is off. The battery life is poor with the backlight on. The user interface of the 78sc was dumbed down by Garmin. A disappointment. The 78sc is almost useless for me.
