👤I am skeptical about this purchase. Buying from a small unknown company was a bit of a gamble for me, as Stratux is a do-it-yourself kit. I ordered it anyway, and I thought that if it didn't work, Amazon would be fine with that. I couldn't get the thing to sync up to my Ipad after it charged the battery pack. I thought it was impossible. I called the number listed on the instructions sheet to see if I could get help. Straight to the phone. I got a call back as I was about to go through Amazon's return policies. The guy is doing a great job. A military pilot and instructor. He just loves aviation. I was helped out over the phone. Highly recommend this company. He does it for the joy rather than the money. It was well spent.

👤This product is amazing. I can't emphasize enough how many times the Stratux has saved me and my students by helping us avoid traffic, as a CFI who flies 7 days a week in some of the busiest airspace in the country. Let's talk about the price first. The Stratux is the best deal if you're on a budget. If you can get all the features you need for less than half the price of a Scout, for example, why would you want to spend $500 or more on something? I have never had an issue with ForeFlight's internet connection. I haven't had an issue with the card since I had an issue with Sean, who resolved the problem in the most expedient manner, which is rare these days. I have flown for hours in the Texas summer weather and have had no issues, even when the weather is close to freezing. I bought another external battery just in case, because the external battery will power the unit throughout the day. The Stratux is a good choice for peace of mind and safety. I refuse to fly without my Stratux because it's an incredible tool that adds a massive layer of situational awareness. The CO2CREA Hard Travel Case is a must have for the Stratux to prevent it from getting damaged.

👤I was contacted by Sean at Crew Dog Electronics within an hour after some initial issues were thought to be related to the Stratux. I didn't even consider getting a resolution from Crew Dog Electronics because I had been over 30 days since I purchased the Stratux. I thought I had issues with the Stratux, I was on my own. I was mistaken. Sean at CDE was quick to assess the situation. Since the last update of the Foreflight platform, there have been some serious connection loss issues with the devices such as the Stratux and the Stratus 2. I'm not the only one who has lost their gps signal with an ADS-B receiver that is used in conjunction with Foreflight. Some of the people with similar issues are looking for other EFB platforms because this is a Foreflight issue and not a Stratux issue. Sean at Crew Dog Electronics offered to inspect, repair or replace my Stratux if there was an actual problem with the internal gps, and of course also addressed the loose antenna connection issue I mentioned in my initial review. I was pleasantly surprised. It's clear that Sean is passionate about his product and is quick to address any potential issues with the Stratux, even though he has had several email conversations with him regarding this issue. You can't beat that kind of customer service, even if it costs you about $1,000. After receiving the unit back from Crew Dog Electronics a few days ago, I was able to fly with it yesterday and it worked perfectly! The ForeFlight update was released after many complaints of loss of signal, but not a single issue post update. Crew Dogs Electronics included their new mount for the Stratux, which went on without a hitch on the flying lawnmower. Crew Dogs Electronics has total professionals and on top of their game. Cheers.

👤I bought the Tracki because I suspected my husband was doing something, it was a great device and works great, I highly recommend it.

👤I bought these to track the movement of my vehicle and belongings when I am moving across the country. The instructions state to charge the battery for 12 hours until the blinking light stops. The light stopped blinking after I charged the battery. The device was placed perfectly in my home, I was delighted to see how accurate it was. I set the device to send a signal for 4 hours and it should have given me 30 days of tracking. I took the device to the vehicle carrier depot after putting it in my car. I wasn't concerned because it hadn't yet been 4 hours, and the app still showed it back in my house. I knew something was wrong when it was still showing at my house. I called Tracki the next morning and asked what was wrong. The person who answered the phone was pleasant, and I was told that the device was set to internet, not gps, which is why it showed in my home. I was told that they could reset it remotely, but I might have to power down the device and restart it. I had a problem with my device being somewhere else. I didn't know where I was because Tracki wasn't following. There are two more The battery is now 31%, not 24 days after I activated the device. It wouldn't last more than 2 days. If my car makes it to its destination, I will be able to see that device again. It is anyone's guess if and when it will happen. Thank you for that. The other two devices that I planned to place along with my belongings will be taken by the moving company. The battery life is stated on Amazon in a way that is not true. The instructions are incomplete and make the device useless. Buy at your own risk. The person who answered my call at Tracki told me that their supervisor would call me back later when they arrived at the office. I'm still waiting. Tracki, thanks again.

👤I want to like this and I will start out with a positive. It's easy to hide. I was going to give this three stars but the negatives added up and the app was updated making things worse. You can view history on the phone app or on the web interface. Each interface has its own abilities, but not the other. The maps looked the same until the phone app was updated. The mess of lines when tracking history became even worse as the function of telling you the direction of travel on the phone app was lost. You can export a log file, but it has no support for viewing on earth, and you are stuck with random dot points. Pulling up history can limit you to a few days of tracking. It's difficult to remember when a particular event happened or when a person was driving unless you want to download the file and alter it using third party software. It takes more power to track a moving object. I stretched it out to 2.5 days once or twice but I had to charge it daily. I was going to hard wire it into the vehicle, but they updated the app. It's difficult to remove and install it so often that the tracker can be charged. Hard wiring defeats the purpose of having a small device. I tried turning the device off for 15 minutes then on for 5 to take a reading, but it didn't help. There are no instructions for doing that, but you can make changes on the web interface. The app gave you more options if it was in the past 24 hours. You only could view full days at a time if you checked history after a day had passed. This tracker should be updated once a minute. This is the most slow setting for other trackers, some update every 3 to 5 seconds. The track will not follow roads often. I used other trackers that lasted 2 full weeks, which is more than the unit gave me. It was possible to see a lot of stops at one minute intervals. Reducing the intervals in order to save battery life made it impossible to see people pull over to pick up someone. It's difficult to determine what roads were used. It doesn't track data like others do. I had better luck with free apps on an old cell phone. I dropped my phone in the car. Silly me. The "magnetic mount" is not a mount at all. The app lost function after being updated. It was changed to a very plain looking map that makes it hard to figure out the location. You can change the view to something else that is more visible, but it will always be the same view I dislike. I was going to give this a three star review but ended up giving it one star for all the things I mentioned. How did we get to this point? At this point, I am giving it five stars. A person reached out to me. He appreciated my negative input and was very professional. I was under the impression that they try to make the product better. I waited to update the review, maybe a little too long. I wanted to see the improvements first. Customer service and attention to detail really impressed me. What about the improvements that I'm talking about? The web interface received an update. The battery saving function can be set up on all formats. History can now be looked at in a different way. The arrows are back indicating the direction of travel, and the map now retains your preferred method of viewing it. I added another photo to show you the difference between the old map and the new one. The app is less cluttered and gives you more information. I don't have to switch from the app to the pc to get all the features. I believe they will try to add more features. The unit is selling below competitors. It was accurate. The monthly fee is lower than most competitors. It is still a disappointment to me that the battery life is not better. It usually falls between what they say. It surprises me with a third day for me, usually two days. I can't take a star off for this because it's in a normal variation and as advertised. The thing with this device is that you can pick what you want. A small device that is very lightweight for a kid to carry in a backpack. The choice is yours. I haven't used the extended battery pack yet, but it's charging now. The small tracker is not any larger than the competitors in other waterproof cases. I will probably update after I know how the case works. The company has turned my opinion around with great customer service. I just canceled my service. I wanted to say that the company changed a lot in the time I used them. This product has given me a lot of thought, even though I originally hated it. My kid has a job now that he is 18. I don't think I should keep a record of his every move as he is an adult. I had no problem going weeks before it needed a refill. I would get a low batt warning when the battery level dropped. After the first warning, the battery would last about 5 days. The standard battery is not good. The service was accurate. They added a lot of things, such as running mileage and other reports. Sometimes it gives you readings of KPH instead of MPH, even though everything is set up correctly. I'm now a happy customer. Customer service was always responsive to my concerns. I will install this unit to track my motorcycle in the spring, but at this point it's not necessary.

4. Dual Electronics XGPS150A Multipurpose Augmentation

Dual Electronics XGPS150A Multipurpose Augmentation

Add Gps. You can strengthen your Gps signal on any device by connecting via wireless. The free downloadable app provides accurate gps coordinates, position update rate change, and much more. Being able to add accurate gps to your device will allow you to use hundreds of available apps. The Gps receiver has a battery life of over eight hours of continuous use and comes with a usb charging cord. That will stick to most surfaces.

Brand: Dual Electronics

👤It works better than I anticipated. I have an older WiFi only iPad Mini that I wanted to use for navigation but it doesn't have built-in gps. When I connected my iPad mini to the dual XGPS105A via a wireless connection, it asked to download the accompanying app. The app is useful. It tells you the number of satellites you are connected to, the signal strength, position information, and the battery status. I turned it on in the house because I couldn't wait but I was able to connect to multiple satellites with ease. I thought I would have to go outside. With the gps locked and loaded, I tried out some maps. Both worked well. My weather radar map is now location enabled. Awesome. I have taken it down the road a few times now, about 100 miles total, without issue, but I will update this review once I have a longer road trip under my belt. I didn't expect to see the app mentioned in any of the reviews or forums. This thing is special. I can't wait to try it out against other devices, like a newer iPad, windows tablets, and some surveying equipment. I will report back, but so far it's been good.

👤Don't buy anything from AXXERA or DUAL. The unit will work for 25 times, then the internals will short out, killing the battery, but they will sell you another battery. Next year there will be some other name. They changed their names to keep up with consumer fraud. Don't buy anything made by these people. You will be sad.

👤I bought a gps receiver for my Jeep. This product works in conjunction with my Apple iPad and provides pin point accurate gps for any app you are using. It takes 5 to 10 minutes to connect to my iPad via BluTooth once I turn on the puck. This could be my fault. Overall very pleased! It's easy to charge up at home or in your vehicle. Very easy to use. I stuck a piece of tape to the back of the vehicle and it still works.

👤For almost two months, use the dual XGPS150A with my iPad 2. Since the iPad 2 didn't have a gps receiver installed, I decided to use the dual XGPS 150A, which is described in the technical documentation to receive 12 gps and up. The dual XGPS15A is a free navigation app that has a very simple and minimalist design. The dual XGPS150A receiver is small and has Haptics very pleasant. The gps is green. The Bluethooth connection is created relatively fast after switch on, but the GLONASS satellites are not supported, but they are displayed in the app, but they are crossed out. It happens in dense forests on winding roads and in large cities close to tall houses. When you're on foot in New York, Boston, and Chicago, the pressure point is non-tactile, so locating is almost non-existent. The dual XGPS150A would no longer splash water and dirt if you removed the plastic cover and cut a hole in the non-slip pad.

5. Waterproof Receiver Laptop Interface Gain

Waterproof Receiver Laptop Interface Gain

We will send the document to you. The UBLOX 8 engine. The device is configured over a serial interface. Combines low power consumption with high sensitivity. The immunity is exceptional. The software is software. You can easily connect to your device via theusb 2.0 and use most commercial or open source mapping software.

Brand: Qgp Supply

👤I was looking for an external gps that could work with Windows 10 Maps and other apps that use serial port. The device is perfect for this purpose and it has drivers for both the location sensor and COM port. If you install both drivers, you can use it for Windows 10 Maps and other applications that use COM port to get gps data, as well as other applications that use windows 10 location API. U-blox also provides U-center software which allows to set a lot of settings for this receiver, it's pretty advanced and lets you set a lot of everything. The location accuracy is very good. It works inside a car as well as on the roof. It's a steal for the price. I was not able to determine a few things about this device. The chip used in this device is the exact U-blox chip. If the device is a ROM chip with a future update that won't be possible, or if it's an upgradeable device, then it's not possible. Whether the device has flash memory or battery-backed up configuration storage. Please leave a reply if anyone knows the answer to the question.

👤Plug the gpsd daemon into theusb port and you'll see data. You don't need to use the evaluation software to get this unit going on the Pi because it works on Windows. Download and try the evaluation software. It is worth it. The configuration changes described in Oscar Blanco's review for gpsd should be made. The issue is not the receiver, but the configuration.

👤I used to use a gps receiver on my Windows 10 device to track my road trips, but it only worked in the city, so I used to get no data in the mountains or canyons. The location provided by this receiver is based on data from both satellites and gives me a much more reliable fix. I haven't been able to test it in the worst conditions yet, but it has been able to provide a good fix in several places where the old one failed. The unit is small and has a strong magnet built into the base that keeps it firmly attached to the flat car body panel.

👤I am using this device to make sure the clock on my laptop is not set to go off during the upcoming amateur radio Field Day exercise. For certain applications, the clock must be on. The puck does a great job. Very happy with it! I would recommend both of them.

👤You need to download and install the "u-center" software on Windows. The display is difficult to set up. 3 stars off. It's very sensitive and can pick up a lot of satellites hundreds of miles away. It picks up satellites inside my apartment, so I don't need to go outside or on the roof. I don't know how to set this up to receive Galileo satellites.

👤I have been very happy with the purchase. I'm familiar with the devices used outdoors, but I thought I would try it out with my laptop. For most practical purposes, the accuracy for an often used location needs no further accuracy adjustments, even though it lacks the newest addition to the GNSS satellite systems - Galileo. It's hard to beat for the price and flexibility.

6. VK 162 G Mouse External Navigation Raspberry

VK 162 G Mouse External Navigation Raspberry

There is a multi-PLATFORM. It supports the following: Linux, Windows, and the like. Plug and play is supported by the Stratux project. 7 ft. cord is used for remote mounting. The new chip is the U-blox 7. It's durable. IPX6 is dust-tight. It's durable. IPX6 is dust-tight.

Brand: Stratux

👤I've bought 2 of these over the course of 2 years. I use them for my gps device while flying. The gps is very good. I get 10m position accuracy and it locks onto a gps position. The wire near the plastic gps housing developed issues such that the wire would no longer provide a signal. I had to open the units and bend the wire on the end near the housing to find a wire position that would allow the serial port to communicate again. I wrapped the wire in electrical tape and placed it in the bent position. Both of them continued to work. I'm going to try a braided cable for my Stratux and a G mouse for a test to see if I can get something that will last longer.

👤I found a gps receiver that will work on my pi network time server. It took me several minutes to get a minimum of 3 satellites required by the software on theRaspberry Pi, even though my other gps was ok. I had to fuss with it because it wouldn't remain locked. After plugging it in and starting the gps server, it would lock onto several satellites within seconds and remain locked to those satellites. I monitored the operation for several days using U-Center windows software and found the gps to be fast and sensitive, picking up and locking onto over 4 satellites within seconds. The gps is 5 feet from a window. It is even faster outside. My NTP server is up and running because of its default output. My computer time needs to be accurate to milliseconds, and an accurate NTP server is needed for my ham radio equipment.

👤I bought this to use in a data logging project I'm building for my car. It's great to have support out of the box. It's very easy to get data from third party applications. Works well with Kismet. I mounted it to the roof of my car and it has not had any issues moving around. It is easy to route through weather stripping and door mold for a hidden wire installation with the built inusb cable.

👤If the internet goes down, I wanted a time source for the pi. I didn't have to move my pi because it has a nice long lead. I could put it in the window. I don't know why it says "suction power", it doesn't have a cup on it, but it has a magnetic base.

👤It works well on the boat even when it's inside on the navigation desk, because I bought this to use with OpenCPN. It was easy to setup. If you find that the unit can't acquire enough satellites, you could mount it on the deck in a waterproof enclosure.

👤It is easy to find satellites, and interface nicely with OpenCPN. Plug it in, start xgps and then replug in a couple of seconds. Within seconds, it will start acquiring satellites, because it wakes up xgps to a device being attached. The old one I used was ten times worse than this one. It's a great example of how things have improved over time.

7. 300W Digital Stereo Receiver System

300W Digital Stereo Receiver System

The power output is 300 watt. The maximum output of the PT270AIU is 300 watt, which will fill your room with sound. The amplifier has a brilliant digital fluorescent display. The mode is AM/FM. The amplifier has an antenna. It has an auto station seek that will help you to enjoy listening to your favorite stations, as well as the ability to store up to 50 radio station preset. You can listen to your favorite music with the mp3 player plug-in. It has a docking station for all iPod models. You can connect your iPod to the docking station. Stereo and RCA inputs for play media are included. You can also play your favorite media with theusb ports. It has 2 1/2 inch mic inputs and mic volume controls. A speaker is speaking out. The amplifier has banana-plug speaker terminals, two monoRCA outputs, and its own gain control. The A/B speaker out switch controls multiple sets of speakers.

Brand: Pyle

👤This was a versatile receiver for me. I was interested in the features of the ipod docking station. I added more components that were easy to use. I'm quite happy with this receiver.

👤This unit is very nice and we like the sound of it. We like the option of Karaoke. This really delivers great sound if you want it.

👤The receiver was great. I was looking for a simple and easy to use replacement and this fit the bill. The receiver picks up my favorite radio stations.

👤I don't know how to connect my phone to my phone.

👤The sound is easy to set up. There is no reason to dislike this unit. It has good quality. I recommend it to everyone.

8. Receiver Antenna Gmouse Laptop Navigation

Receiver Antenna Gmouse Laptop Navigation

Menu is used to get the data from the gps receiver after instialled U-CENTER V8X. The software can be downloaded from the official website. It's compatible with Win 11/10/ Win 8/. Win 7/Vista/XP/98/CE. The software is free. All-in-view tracking on 56 channels. The U-BLOX 7 Chipset has a Magnetic base, high sensitivity and Strong Singal. Tracking sensitivity is high. IPX4 water resistance, dust-tight, cable length is 6.5 Ft. OpenCPN can be supported on the Raspberry Pi. One year warranty.

Brand: Vfan

👤I was able to get the gps receiver to work with OpenCPN on my cheapo Windows 10 tablets. I plugged the receiver into the port that was provided for it. The driver was installed by Windows 10. I opened the "Option" menu, selected "Connections", and then clicked to look at the available COM ports. In my case, I chose the newCOM7 for me, and chose a buad rate of 9600, which is the same as the standard 4800 default. I clicked "Apply" and voila! The satellite logo in the upper right corner of the screen turned red to green when my boat appeared on the chart. The Ublox program is not needed. The big take-away is that Windows 10 will automatically download the right driver, but it is only for the serial tousb part of the receiver. It shows up on Windows 10 Device Manager as a new COM port, not as a "GPS Receiver" or something similar, but as a new port under the "Ports (COM & LPT)" header. OpenCPN can receive and decode the "GPGSV" and "GPGLL" sentences if the receiver spits them out.

👤I wanted to use Open CPN as a navigation software and install the U-Blox 7 gps sensor. Not this year. The "sensor" is not compatible with Windows 10 without uploading a Virtual Comm Port. On the U-Blox website, they offer the VCP with an.EXE extension, but it is not an exe file, but something called a 10 file. I think you understand the picture. The internet is full of people who are experiencing the same issues. All necessary charts are downloaded and plug-ins are available. If your computer isn'tGPS enabled and you are using OpenCPN, I would suggest you use another antenna. Why 2 stars. I was able to get the software they give to see antenna performance to work, and the lat and lon were correct. I have been trying to work around the difference between a device and a sensor for over four hours. I sent emails to both of them with no response.

👤This device was bought with the intention of cannibalizing it. Attach it to a port and read the output for accuracy. The device I tested used a /dev/cu* device instead of a tty. The time and gps information was accurate. The internal device was in the shell. I had to destroy the shell. There aren't any screws. The RF shield fell off. It had to be re- soldered back on. There are five The Ubx-G7020-KT is the "standard" grade device. The more rugged G7020-KA is not what it is. There is a small battery on the board that can be used for a real time clock. This would allow for quicker signal acquisition. I would expect this device to fail after a few years. I wouldn't recommend this device for harsh environments. The manufacturing process used is flawed and no gasket are used to stop the flow of water. The manufacturing process was not enough to keep the shield in place. There are three The chip is not rated for harsh environments. It was a bargain, but don't trust it if safety or cyber security is ever going to be an issue. The battery was a pleasant surprise, but I wonder why the low end device has this.

9. HiLetgo G Mouse GLONASS Receiver Windows

HiLetgo G Mouse GLONASS Receiver Windows

There is a gps receiver for windows 10. There is a gps receiver called the g-mose. Windows 10,Vista/XP/CE are supported. The reference coordinate system is called the WGS. Tracking sensitivity is.

Brand: Hiletgo

👤It works on Windows 10 and the Pi. It will take some time and technical ability to get it going. It is not possible to use gisnass with gps/waas simultaneously. It's limited use for most. Don't abuse build quality, you will be fine. --- The review is for technical users. Instructions, software, drivers, etc. are not included in the VK172. It uses the u-blox 7020 chip and outputs a stream of standard messages. Special configuration messages can be sent/received without the software, but it's not as easy. I used Windows 10 for initial testing. It was assigned a serial comm port after plugging it in. It depends on what drivers you already have installed. I used PuTTY terminal software to connect to it after using device manager to find the correct comm port number. It showed the sentences immediately, even though the baud rate was set to a different standard. I downloaded the UBLOX "u-center for windows" software to see if it worked. Within a few minutes, I had a lock on my position and the blue led started to flash. This was not near windows. After a while, it picked up a signal from the WAAS and was receiving satellites. I felt the device was barely warm after 20 minutes. I tested it with a real time gps mode and it worked just fine. It took nearly 5 minutes to get a 3D fix after I tried it again the next morning. It may be that night time RF signals get less interference or that it didn't retain the ephemeris data. At night it was around 2 and at day it was over 3-4. When moving the receiver close to a window, two WAAS satellites were picked up. The daytimePDOP improved to 1.3-1.8. A full cold start in this location took 5 minutes and 20 seconds to get an initial fix. A hot start took less than a minute. A warm start took 31 seconds. It isn't too useful in reality because it's advertised as working with Glonass satellites. The configuration through the software seems to show that Glonass isn't enabled. The documentation states that neither gps nor qzs can be enabled. After disabling all other systems, I was able to enable Glonass. The only advantage would be if it received both at the same time. Since it doesn't, there is no point in bothering with it. I did a quick test on the Pi 3 after playing with Windows. I connected to the serial port using the putty program. I watched the expected strings. Gpsd seemed to work after a bit of effort. I looked inside. The ublox G7020-KT gps chip, ft25h03s 4Mbit serial flash, small battery like component, and patch antenna are notable components. The battery is just over 1 watt. The markings are obscured, but I think it's an XH414 which is a battery-operated device that can be used for a hot start. The soldering was good, except for the mechanical contact points which had not flowed properly, the signal pins were fine. I did not need to touch up the weak solder joints. It is a decent unit if you don't need the two things at the same time.

10. GlobalSat BU 353 S4 USB Receiver Black

GlobalSat BU 353 S4 USB Receiver Black

A built-in gps patch antenna. A built-in roof mount Magnet. 48 channels of all-in-view tracking SiRF Star IV is a gps device.

Brand: Globalsat

👤The NMEAGPS Receiver is used for applications. Does not provide location services to Windows. It was weatherized to handle all but submersion. It can be attached to many surfaces without damage. The body panels of a car are included. complies with the standards of the NMEA. The interface is a standardusb-to-serial The COM4 settings are used by the NMEA interface. There is no support for Windows location services. The device is an NMEA device. It will work in any location that works with NMEA, but no modern Windows applications. It is only IPX6 rated, meaning it is not truly waterproof. It can handle a lot of rain. Only one location update per second. This is not a 5hertz version. There's a software package that will connect to an NMEA device and create a Windows Sensor for use with location services. This is a software solution for the hardware manufacturer's lack of native software. There are some bugs. It works. The package in question is calledGPSdirect. My only problems are with the software. I know the device complies with the standards it claims to support. There are newer standards in 2015.

👤They started giving me times in 1905 after using these for a while. I get the correct date when I boot up. The receiver no longer responds and sends data after I tried to go back to the script I wrote. Until the date changes, it works well with gpsd. It works well, other than producing data that is useless. I'm not sure if we're talking about the same device. The one I have connects to a port at a rate of 5000 baud. A driver is needed to read serial data. Any application can read the data once the driver is installed, I wrote a Python script that opens the device and reads the "sentences". The first consideration is that the initial read could be a bit long. The reader has to sync with the stream, which is not difficult considering the second consideration, which is each sentence is terminated with two newline characters. When you get a full line that starts with a '$', you sync by reading. I can read the data from the receiver using "cat". The heading sentence is not generated by the receiver. The antennae is bulky, but magnetic.

👤This is my 3rd one. I use them on Windows 10 64 bit machines to do the time setting for some applications that I run. The mini-disk that comes with the puck has a utility. Your windows time is dead on if that utility is running. Turn off Windows internal time setting so they don't compete. Highly recommend the software. The program and gps ran 24x7 and the difference between Time.is and this was +0.011 seconds. I have an Amazon purchased gps repeater that is stuck on a broom handle against a window in my basement and I am seeing 7 satellites from it. The sensitivity is very good. The HDOP is 1.9 and thePDOP is 2.5. Anything below 4 is considered great.

11. GlobalSat BR 355S4 GPS Receiver Black

A built-in gps patch antenna. A built-in roof mount Magnet. There is a serial port interface. Slim Profile Housing. It is compatible with most software. If you are using a laptop, you will need a cable set.

Brand: Globalsat

👤The Uniden SDS 100 works great with this, you just get the cable from Uniden, and you save $25+ compared to buying the Uniden gps kit. The radio will detect it if you connect the cable.

👤I use this to connect to my mobile radio. The radio needs aGPS to function properly when it's on the go. None of the other gps receivers worked for me. The serial gps device works for the TM-700A. I made a box that converts the 6 PIN DIn to the 5V DC that I can use to plug in a 5v DC transformer. The gps came up and locked when the radio was plugged in.

👤The Uniden rebadges is completely interchangeable with the Uniden gps puck, including the 6-pin DIN connector. It picks up a usable signal in my basement, and has good sensitivity. The data is industry standard. When searching for satellites, the LEDs blink when they get a fix. Here's the wiring diagram for the black and shield. The ground. Red is required for 50mA and Green is required for 50mA and White is required for 50mA. In, but not needed for most applications.

👤The GlobalSat BR-355S4 is the one I bought that has the PS/2 port, not the one with the plug. You need to provide a separate 5VDC power source for it to work. The attached picture shows the radio with "GPS Data OK" on it, along with the pinout information for both modules. Attach GlobalSat Pin5 TX to Uniden Yellow. Attach GlobalSat Pin1 GND to Uniden Green and a 5V ground. Attach GlobalSat Pin2 VCC to the power source and you'll get 5V across the center two conductors. There is a pinout on the internet. You probably have something in your junk drawer. Plug it into the cigarette charge and then find the two wires with 5V on them using a volt meter. You can find more information on the GlobalSat's website, but you can probably do it from the picture. You can solder wires if you can read pinout diagrams. I was very happy that this came together quickly. The radio now displays lat, lon, course and speed in knots with one button push. It was pretty slick.

👤The unit has worked well with several Icom radios. An interface cable is trivial. The unit is in the side of my house. It's easy to work with. If I needed another such unit, I would recommend and purchase again.

👤I attached this to my Uniden SDS-100 scanner and it registered 'GPS' on the screen. I had a Plug & Play installation. The reception seems to work well with this receiver.

👤Overall rating is 3 stars for erratic output and cost. The price of the bare clone modules is 3x the price of the puck and cabling. The output is not ttl, it's rs232 which is inverted and the voltage on mine is - 4.5v to + 7.7v. There is an added converter. Couldn't get a fix. There are twelve sv in view. Thenav rcvr warning is V. After being off for 12 hours, the device gets a lock and is powered up. GPRMC messages are emitted in a staccato fashion, making gps use as a clock with a seconds indicator a little troublesome. The pattern is around 1100ms, 300ms, 800, 800 and then repeating. The bare $10 gps modules are not a problem with this.
