👤We had good success using the Nuvi in Italy, so I thought we could rely on it and not bring paper maps. It was a big mistake. The map database claims to be 2012 but needs to be updated. Half of the superhighways in Portugal are completely absent from the map package. It was frustrating to be driving on a major highway while our gps device begged us to drive to the highlighted route. If we weren't lucky enough to catch the signs for the highways, we'd have to drive on secondary routes that would take us twice as long to get where we were going. It was not very good at distinguishing between the preferred roads and the tiny back roads. I can't remember how many times the road signs for town X would point one way, and the other way would be a narrow, residential side street. The reason we have a gps device is to make driving stress-free. It worked well in other places, but this time we were let down.
👤We bought a map card for our trip last month. We also used maps from Michelin. We were in Madrid/Toledo until the day we left Madrid for the driving portion of our trip. We went to Segovia to pick up our kids, but we stopped at many other places nearby. We drove from Porto down to Nazare, Fatima, Alcobaca, Obidos, and Sintra. The map card and paper maps worked well for us. We can only remember 3 times when the map card failed us, the first being between Tarifa and Gibraltar, the second being at least 5 km away, and the third being at the exit that didn't exist. We were sent to a small town near Faro instead of the historic city center because we didn't know the address for the small museum. When we arrived at most of these towns, we used our gps in pedestrian mode and that probably saved us a lot of steps of walking in the wrong direction. We found the map card and paper maps to be well spent as our vacation time never seems to be long enough to get us to where we want to visit.
👤The map we used was not accurate in many places. Many roundabouts that were newer but not that new were missing on the map as well as inaccurate exits counts. The points of interest were terrible. We used travel books and Trip Advisor to find popular restaurants that were in business for a long time, but you couldn't find them on the map. We had to use addresses but they didn't work at times. It was easier to use the maps in the cities. We could have just used our cell phones and not spent a dime.
👤It took me to some dirt roads. Was a bit crazy. We did. Since 2001 I've used gps units, but have never experienced that situation before. It took me there despite the settings to make sure you avoid off roads. It was strange since there were other ways. I would buy it again. The screen shows the speed limit for the road you are driving on. The detail of the lane and exit you are about to take is a great feature. The voice command is very easy to use. The pronunciation of the name of the roads could be improved.
The large, easy-to-read 7” touchscreen has a bright, crisp, high-resolution display. You can get a custom truck route based on the size and weight of your truck, and you can see upcoming bridge heights, sharp curves and more. You can view parking information along your route. You can use the Preloaded Truck & Trailer Services directory to find truck stops. Load-to-dock guidance shows potential loading zones or storage lots when approaching your destination. See popular routes used by fellow drivers. You can use the voice assistant to talk to the navigator while keeping your hands on the wheel. If you want to use the ELD for hours of service recording, you need to pair the eLog with the app on your phone or tablet. If you want to use the ELD for hours of service recording, you need to pair the eLog with the app on your phone or tablet.
👤This thing is a quality piece of hardware. It's durable, functional, boots up quickly and works well, unlike some gps units I've had. garmin's maps suck. This thing assures me that my maps are current and up-to-date, but they make mistakes all the time. It tries to send me to closed roads that no longer exist. The biggest flaw with this unit is that it doesn't have a "detour" button like previous garmin gps units. If it wants you to take a road that's closed for roadwork, it's as stubborn as a horse's ass, and will not change its mind. The only way to re-route is to manually enter a different route. garmin, bring back the detour button. It's better than not having a gps at all, but it still has some major flaws that will annoy you.
👤I own a lot of cars. I tried it for a week next to my maps and was not happy with the gps. Without the phone app it won't show traffic. When I received a phone call I didn't like the idea of connecting to my phone, it switched from my phone to the gps. That was making me nervous. I like to deal with maps on the internet for $400. It would be perfect if the bridge heights were known by the maps.
👤I took a few to get used to it. I like the fact that I don't need to hook up to a computer and go through a bunch of steps to update. I have been using for a month and it has been great. Don't leave your gps plugged in all the time, that's a tip I learned from the last one. You will shorten the life span of the battery by burning it up.
👤Can't find addresses on the screen.
👤The best gps I have had. It definitely could use improvement. It doesn't connect to a car, RV, or truck's stereo system to allow the sound of directions to be heard through the speaker system. Once you have downloaded the Garmin Drive app, you can use all of the features on it. The gps doesn't have an auxillary plug area. Sometimes it's hard to hear directions when driving. It's definitely better than my previous units. I would give it 4 stars if it was possible to play directions through the speakers.
👤The product was easy to setup. Sell asked about the item the same day. The service is top notch. Will buy from them again with hesitation.
👤Awesome! I needed a 7” screen. Can not go wrong.
👤I am happy with the device so far. It looks good and he is doing a good job. There is a job.
👤If I want to use this garmin, I have to plug it in all the time, and I don't think I'll buy any electronics from Amazon in the future.
There are options for portrait and landscape mode on the large RV navigator. The size and weight of your RV are taken into account to find the best route. Road warnings to keep you aware of steep grades, sharp curves, weight limits and more. There is a directory of RV parks and services on the website. Control with your voice, and enjoy hands-free calling, and built-in wi-fi for easy map and software updates without a computer. Pre-made street maps for North America have coverage of the U.S., Mexico, Canada, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. You need to download the Garmin Drive app for GPX file sharing and access to live traffic, weather and smartphone notifications. The magnetic mount with video-in port accessory is required for the third-party wired camera to see behind your vehicle.
👤I have been using the RV 760 for the last five years and bought this to replace it. The RV 890 is a big step forward. It's not just a bigger screen. The software has been greatly improved, the user interface is more intuitive, the touch screen is more responsive, and the voice recognition is better. The RV 760 had a smaller mount that would lose its grip in warm weather, but the windshield mount on this thing is a beast. The RV 890 has a bunch of new features, including the ability to use Foursquare, which is a big deal, not because I use it that much, but because their database contains many POIs that aren't in the Garmin database. The ability to plan, save and retrieve multiple routes in advance and the ability to modify the unit's suggested route are two of the best new features. It will take a while to try all the goodies. This upgrade was worthwhile.
👤I have a number of portable and built in gps units, as well as a phone, Ipad and laptop. The unit is easy to read and operate after a reasonable learning curve. I would knock it down form perfect for two reasons. The voice recognition doesn't always recognize my voice. The permanent base was used because the suction mount didn't work in my application. You can plan a trip with multiple stops and pick it up at any intermediate stop. The suggested rest stops are based on time and distance. It has lifetime maps, traffic, and the ability to program from your phone.
👤I have been trying to get maps for this device from Good Sam and RV trip apps. Do not spend money on this device because it does not work.
👤I replaced the rand McNally unit because it was old and not up to date. What a difference there is. It's much easier to use the device. I was a bit uneasy when I approached it. It leads me to what I want to do. Buy this one. I don't have any complaints. None at all. George W. Ensley is a FCC licensed tech.
👤I'm hoping I have a bad unit. I'm a fan of the company. After using it for about an hour, my unit failed. It will not turn on anymore. It's going back. The magnetic interface works fine with the 20mm ball packed in the suction cup mount. The magnetic mount requires a 20mm ball and the dash mount requires a 25mm ball. A really bad shipment. It looked new, but it was a bad shipment. I'll try again.
👤I sent it back after I used it for the first time. RV Life is on a designated tablet. I thought the RV 890 would be more user friendly. The RV 890 is a mid-grade device. I spent hours on the device trying to download something. Routes with no luck. As I searched online, I found that other people are having the same problem. Purchase a nice tablet, download the RV Life app, and save money. You will get a better user interface, online and offline mapping and run your favorite music apps. This is not worth more than $500. Sorry!
Easy to use dedicated gps navigator with bright display. There are lifetime maps of the U.S. Driver warnings for dangerous curves, speed changes, speed cameras and more. Hotels, restaurants, and attractions have ratings on the website. The guides use recognizable landmarks, buildings and traffic lights.
👤I can't review Easy to Use because I'm over 80. I had to call at least three times, but the customer service was great. I was patiently walked through my problem by each rep. There was a problem that had nothing to do with me and I was able to resolve it. I know how to use the gps. You would never know it was refurbished when I bought it at a very good price. I am very happy with the product and recommend it to anyone.
👤It wouldn't turn on after about 2 months, but it worked great for a while. The cheapest option at the post office was $11, and I had to pay shipping to return it.
👤The quality of this unit is brand new, and it may have been a LMT unit in the past. The unit performs as it should. The software was very easy to use and it came up to speed very quickly. It's easy to update software on my PC. It was an easy decision to buy because of the good price. There are a couple of things that are not nice. The unit protests when you try to charge it with a non-garmin cable. The unit senses a data cable. It's really hard. This isn't necessary. A confirmation button should be used. Why do I think this is annoying? The place where I mounted this device in my car is about 8 inches away from the 12V sockets. I don't need a lot of cable. The same thing happens when you run off of a 120V charge. It's double UGH. I tried different cables and chargers. The next thing to be annoyed is the LCD's polarization. Has anyone tried to look at the screen with sunglasses? TheGPS operates in a horizontal mode. Why do you polarize the display in the diagonal? My 8 year old does the same thing. I haven't seen a similar problem in every new car with a build in display. I couldn't give this unit less than 4 stars because of the good price.
👤I decided to try it instead of using one I borrowed from a friend because I received this right before my trip for work. I had a few wrong directions due to not hooking it up to my computer to download the lifetime maps, but overall it worked great and I ran into one spot where the gps didn't know there was a new road. It has no battery life. I will always use it in the car plugged in, so I'm not worried about that. The large screen on it is what makes me happy.
👤It's been over 100 days since I purchased this gps. After it was purchased, it was used on a trip to Virginia. It was used again last week and the wife was almost stranded. I requested a refund because the renewed unit didn't work and was denied because it was past the 90 day guarantee, so I'm going to have to fix this one again. I won't buy from the seller or a renewed unit again.
Easy to use dedicated gps navigator with bright display. There are lifetime maps of the U.S.A. Live traffic and live parking are provided. Driver warnings for dangerous curves, speed changes, speed cameras and more. Hotels, restaurants, and attractions have ratings on the website. Hotels, restaurants, and attractions have ratings on the website.
👤I was expecting a functional product when I bought it. I got a device that barely turns on, has no owner's manual, and won't let me reset it, even though I am in MA, and I am trying to set it up. I can't recommend buying anything from Amazon. Very disappointed! I will try to charge this to the maximum with theusb port. I have to pay a penalty for trusting Amazon renewed instead of buying a new product. The unit at least partially worked after charging all night. I was able to change my home to Massachusetts and take a small trip. The battery is likely in poor shape because it barely held its' charge for half an hour. The touch screen didn't work and I had to press the area multiple times. I increased the stars because it seemed to work. I can't recommend it. If you buy this, the first thing you should do is to charge it all night. Even if the battery is bad, you can run it off the cigarette lighter, but you can't use it at home to plan trips.
👤The one I got wouldn't turn on. It was a disappointment. The seller says they are all in order. It's going back.
👤I was trying to do a map update after receiving this item. I finally got the download to start after a couple of hours, but it locked up at 72%. Tech support is what it is called. They showed me a list of corrupted drivers and said that the device wouldn't work unless I bought driver updates. My urge for a quick fix was quickly overwhelmed by the fact that I have to spend more money to make something I just purchased work. The touch screen needed several touches to work. I have had good results with my previous two gps's. The seller immediately approved the return. I have to go through that process.
👤I won't go where with it. I like it. I feel safe with it. I travel alone all the time. I feel better on back roads with this. This is worth a million dollars to me. If I decide to get off my route, it will lead me back to the correct route. It was easy to use. It is priceless. Thank you so much!
👤This gps helps with navigation. I used it for a 1600 mile trip and it was very helpful. The unit looked new.
👤I would not rate it a point. I sent it back because it wouldn't work if I didn't buy a software package.
👤I bought this Drive 61 because the battery in my Drive 60 will no longer hold a charge and the local electronics repair place won't replace the battery because it's too much of a risk of the screen coming apart when the unit is disassembled. I don't have unlimited data with my cell service, and traffic service works through one's phone, so this Drive 61 looked to be a good replacement for my old one. I tried to use the traffic power cable. It doesn't work with Drive 61's traffic feature. The unit was returned to Amazon.
Detailed map updates of the United States and Canada are included in the easy-to-use 5”GPS navigator. Simple on-screen menus and maps. Road trip ready with The HISTORY Network of notable sites. Voice-activated and ability to pair with a compatible phone for hands-free calls. The HISTORY network of notable historic sites, a U.S. national parks directory, and millions of Foursquare points of interest are all included. There is a bundle included. The DriveSmart 52 has a vehicle mount, power cable, Documentation, and a hard EVA case.
👤I like the drive 52. Our new car doesn't have a navigation system and I used to use Onstar. I downloaded the instructions from the internet and found them very user friendly. I had several questions about the unit and they were answered quickly. I would definitely recommend this company. I received Prime service from Amazon within a week.
👤If you want to use a gps device, you should get this one. I had this up and running in no time at all. The map updates are easy, unlike my previous Magellan that took hours. I love it and will stay with it.
👤This is the new unit that died. This one is easy to use and works well. The lifetime map updates are a major benefit. The software and maps were updated. It took a while but it was easy. I can't get the route shaping feature to work correctly, that's one of the two downsides that I see at the moment. It adds loops and segments to the route when I try to get it to use a particular street. I didn't have this feature on my original unit so I'm used to not having it. I miss having interesting voices to choose from. There are only two American English voices. It's a good deal for the cost compared to the more expensive units.
👤The newer Garmin can be used with car play or an auto. I bought this as a backup, and it has map updates. It does what I wanted it to do.
👤This is the second device I have purchased. The first one died a long time ago. The case contained 2cables. One cable connected it to a computer. The other cable is for a cigarette lighter in a car, but the other end is too wide to fit the gps device. There was no A/C plug in cord. There is no way to charge the device or keep it running.
👤After the first use of this gps unit, I felt like I was in a bad place. It doesn't do a good job at voice recognition, it's not modeled for normal everyday speech. You can't search for a simple name and city with a search engine, you only get the results you want. This isn't the unit I need, it's a different one.
👤After updating maps and copying locations from my old device, the new gps wouldn't power on and was returned. This is a common problem according to reviews.
👤This was a smaller navigation device. I bought this. The larger screen was a plus. The road layout is correct. It works better than the GM product in my car. I will no longer use that one. I know I can rely on this one.
Detailed maps of major metropolitan areas in Europe. There are features such as turn restrictions, speed categories, and points of interest. Point-To-Point Routes can be created on compatible gps units.
👤I will be taking a 7 week vacation with me to Europe. The trip included a week in Ireland, a week in Scotland, a week in Germany, and a day in Austria. It was not a mistake to get it. I don't like it if anything is lost. I was driving alone for 5 weeks and there was no way a person could navigate around a place they didn't know and use a map to get there. In Edinburgh Scotland, you drive on the left hand side of the road in the right hand side of the car. Tourists take pictures from the middle of the street. Cars are in a rush to get where they are going. Let me look at my map. No! You need to know where to go. NOW! You would pay 10 times more for the map than you actually had to because it helps keep your sanity and out of big nasty messes that you could easily get yourself into. I had rental cars in many locations. You are directed down a bunch of tiny winding roads in Ireland, with the locals hauling butt. You are driving on the left side of the road, the right side of the car is shifting left handed. Right, exciting. You are wondering where the gps is going and it isn't right. I'm here to tell you that Ireland doesn't have a lot of big highways like the U.S. They have a lot of small roads that will take you where you want to go quickly. Ireland has a population of people who are very kind and patient. Make the time to visit them all. The only place in Scotland that the map could use improvements was on it. Sometimes it would forget where it was. Sometimes it would want to take me the wrong way. It was better than nothing, but needs some fixes. In Germany and Switzerland, the regular program was dead on the money. There isn't much difference in driving between the two countries. There are differences in how the gps works in Europe and the US. It doesn't show the miles or kilometers per hours that are supposed to be for the speed limit. It doesn't show the same options for things like most use of highways. It was some of the best spent money to help me prepare for the trip to Europe.
👤I recommend that you buy a download version from the store. I put the Amazon-bought micro SD card in the third time and it didn't work. It was more than 30 days old when it was bought through Amazon, so it wouldn't be replaced. I was able to get a replacement download version for half price. If you own a download version of the product, you can make backups to cheap micro-sd cards so that you are protected if the one you're using gets corrupted. This is not hard. If you want to download all of the maps from North America and Europe to the same card, you should buy a big enough micro SD card. Both maps are always available, without the card being removed. I place a small piece of black masking tape over the micro SD card slot to prevent it from being damaged by dust or lost or damaged by accidental ejection while the device is running. I've used the maps in Germany, France, Switzerland, and Portugal, with no problems other than the original Amazon-purchased card, which had the corruption problem already described. I've gotten great technical support from Garmin, but I prefer to use the chat feature on their site to save time, rather than call them. Get a response in a minute.
The displays are bright. Lane Assist with Junction View is an easy way to navigate complex interchanges. Real Voice is a program that uses speech technology to sound like a human voice. You can find places up ahead, like food and gas stations, without leaving the map. Receive warnings for up-coming school zones.
👤I've had a Garmin device for at least 9 years and I love it! The icons on my Nuvi 1490 were no longer reliable. I decided it was time for a new unit. The Nuvi 55 is a nice replacement, but I miss my old 1490 This is why. I don't know how it determines the fastest route. I have selected the fastest route option, but on a recent 1000 mile trip it insisted on selecting interstate routes. The Nuvi 55 said there weren't any alternate routes. The route I took saved me 2 hours over what the Nuvi 55 calculated as the fastest route. I'm not sure if I will be able to trust this model, and may have to input intermediate points along the route I know is fastest so it takes me this way. 2. The green/yellow/red icons let me know the traffic conditions along my route. It gives me a split screen on the right that tells me if there is a delay, and I like that it tells me how far away the delay is. I would like my icons back in addition to the split screen. 3. The print on the screen seems small and hard to read, maybe it's because I'm getting older. I wish I'd gotten the 6 version of the 5" model. The banner at the top is hard to read, but I changed to a different colored background and it helped. I don't like that the road is listed with an interstate sign instead of the "I 25" or "US 87" lettering which is easier to read. 4. I wish the screen gave me a compass reading so I could know which direction I was going. I admit to being challenged. If I'm not going to a specified destination, I can get the compass heading on the screen, but I'd like it on the screen all the time. This is still a nice unit and it merits 4 stars. I hope to see a few software updates in the future which will correct some of the flaws I've found.
👤Which one is better? I thought I needed a newer gps than my old one which is 6 years old. After reading a lot of reviews. It was always the front runner. I have owned two of them. I've had 2 Garmins and 1 TomTom, but always took them back because they were harder to use than the Magellans. I went out and bought a nuvi 55 LMT gps. This model has Life Time Map updates and Life Time Traffic updates. I had to buy map updates with my Magellan. You can purchase system updates if you look at the same Life Time updates from the same company. I could be wrong. I registered it and updated the maps after I received it. This was much easier than updating my car. They are trying to get a comparison. I took both of them for a ride around town to see what I liked better about each one. Both had the same map. Even though the roads had been changed for over 5 years, they both lacked correct road locations. There is a The response to actual driving was faster by Garmin. When you were stopped at an intersection, you were shown that you were right at the intersection. Upcoming roads were recognized sooner. The screen seemed to be easier to see. The icons of the Magellans are better. It was nice to see all of the upcoming things when driving around, but only 3 of them were really sucks. There are more icons related to Mcdonald's golden arches or Starbucks in the display. The generic icon for most restaurants is provided by Garmin. There are more to choose from for the search categories. Both seemed to lack updated businesses and addresses that had been open for 30 years or more. I would like to compare the new Magellan to the old one to see if there is any difference. There is a The quicker the response from the Garmin, the better this gps is. If you have a gps, you would be able to see more icons while driving. I will be using this on a trip. If something changes, I will update.
CUBE will ring if you press find and use the app to show last known location on a map. If you leave something behind, there is a separation alarm. Free lifetime map updates and Live traffic are included with the 5.0” truck navigator. Alert for upcoming Bridge heights, weight limits, and custom truck route for the size and weight of your truck. The display resolution is 480 x272. There is an easy break plan with notifications for breaks and road signs to suggest nearby restaurants. Truck stops by brand and amenities are included in the truck and trailer services directory. Control dzl with your voice, and enjoy built-in wi-fi and hands-free calling. This device is compatible with Windows and Mac OS X.
👤I dislike this device. Disappointed with the navigation. 1. The designated Class truck routes are not shown. 2. It doesn't show the bridge heights. I need these two items in my gps device. The information is on my maps. The reviews of the gps manufacturers were not as good as the reviews of the other manufacturers, and I believe that the information and technology is not available with any gps manufacturers. The database will be very successful if a product is created with it. The fit and finish is what I like. Thank you, but you are disappointed.
👤The features are great, the display is great, and the main part is great. The navigation on garmins is terrible. It will usually bring you a longer way even with the shortest route applied. In truck mode, even with the size of the vehicle entered, it brings you down a lot of dead end roads. There is no need to purchase a separate unit for the better maps. This may be the case in Maine and New Hampshire, but not in other states.
👤The gps works well. I like that you can set it up for doubles and triples, I also like that it works better with my phone, and that it's easy to use with my phone. So far, it is very accurate.
👤This is a good tool for drivers. I was going to be delayed by 2 hours in Idaho due to construction. I was routed around it. It will warn you about accidents, construction, objects in the road, and other things that have been reported to it. The speed limits in Montana are not correct. It shows 70mph for back highways and 65 for freeways, but it has a state border off by about 4 miles. It needs some map updates. It will show you the weather in your route. A gps is not a rule. Use common sense and always read highway signs.
👤I would like to see a version of the maps for commercial trucks. The only way I could use a gps device was with my phone. The product does not recognize new roads or buildings. There is nothing in the new warehouses according to Garmin. That's where the maps come in. In Phoenix AZ, a new stretch of loop 202 going south is open since December, but not for Garmin. I wanted to get on I55 North from Damen Ave but my new $300 gps said "No trucks", which is not true. The navigation system should be less than $75. It is important for Garmin to keep its maps up to date. I spent $300 and updated my maps to be able to find a warehouse that was built more than a year ago. I'm planning to return the gps because it's not very accurate. I'll check out a Rand Mcnally, hopefully it's better than the other one.
👤This gps has gotten me in trouble with taking me down places. If I worked days I would be screwed at times from using this gps sent me down roads with cars parked on both side in residential areas.
Every fishing environment has a rugged design. Transmit power: 200 W (RMS) and frequencies: 50/77/83/200 kHz. The handheld has a high-sensitivity gps receiver and a 2.6-inch color display. It's perfect for water sports and boating. BlueChart g2 is a built-in. The U.S./Bahamas has coastal charts with shorelines, depths, and more. A built-in 3-axis tilt-compensated electronic compass and barometric altimeter is included. Share your waypoints, tracks, routes and geocaches with other compatible device users.
👤The garmin 78sc worked for a week, then got an error message that it couldn't unlocks maps, and then they said garmin knew about the problem and a fix was being worked on.
👤I have used this device extensively, including over a 47 day kayak trip from Anacortes, Washington to Petersburg, AK. It's an awesome tool when it's functioning correctly. There are some design defects that need to be fixed. 1. The rubber covers for the power andusb ports leak salt water and can cause problems. Positive enclosures that never leak are what my other IPX 7 devices have. 2. The device consumes more power when loaded with a lot of waypoints. I was able to see this over a long period of time as I deleted routes and waypoints. As data grows, it never gets to sleep because the software loop always evaluates everything rather than what's currently relevant. 3. The unit OFTEN was locked up. This would require removing the protective cover and restarting. It's not something you want to do in windy conditions. I stopped using this feature eventually. I love it when it works. Before paddling on salt water, I have coated protective covers with Aquaseal. I have to remove it before I can connect it to the computer. They are very close to a great design and I want to love it. Wouldn't it be great if they listened to their customers better? January 7, 2020. I would like to add to my review. Over 34 days, last summer, circumnavigated the island by kayak. I loaded my gpsMAP with a lot of data. While following tracks the battery never locked up. I think software changes have fixed my complaints. Poor design of port covers will leak.
👤I bought the product to replace my old handheld 76c. It was a workhorse and the maps were small. The device could be used with WP. I was disappointed that the charts had no detail, like buoy markings, when I purchased the 78sc. I only had a giant marker on the scale of a small scale chart, because making scale larger resulted in the loss of any useful landmarks. Tech support said to me "what do you expect with a handheld and limited memory?" Over a decade later? The 76c is not a replacement for the 78sc, which is a handheld marine chart. The screen size is smaller than the older model. I would not recommend this device for use in the water.
👤Over the years, I've used a number of Garmin handhelds. I bought this unit to replace the failed one. The 78sc was expected to be a decent replacement. This is not the case. The hardware seems very good, but the software is terrible, especially compared to the oldGPSMAP 76. After I downloaded my old routes and waypoints, I tried to use the unit on my sailboat for a race around the cans. After loading up a route consisting of A, B, C, and A, the unit did not flip to the next waypoint, once a waypoint is reached. I couldn't find a way to flip it. It's difficult to explain, but you will find it annoying. TheGPSMAP 76 was superior in this area. There are two more You can't tell on the navigation page what your next point is. Unlike the 76, it is not displayed. There are 3 more The "active route" page doesn't give any information about the route's waypoints, just the names. Again, unlike the 76. The points are listed in order of distance, not alphabetical. It is hard to find what you are looking for if you have a lot of waypoints. There are five When you are on a sailboat in moderate seas, the speed andvelocity made a good jump. The 76 allowed you to take averages for a longer period of time. The option is not available on the 78sc. The unit is hard to read when the backlight is off. The battery life is poor with the backlight on. The user interface of the 78sc was dumbed down by Garmin. A disappointment. The 78sc is almost useless for me.

👤The new Superhighways in Croatia are incomplete in the southern part of the country, which is approaching Peljesac Peninsula and the Zagreb to Dubrovnik Highway. It gets confused. The new EU Superhighway was not shown. To get on Peljesac you have to take the major ferry to get to Dubrovnik. There is an update for those car tourists areas. Each year and today. We were shown how to get back on the road by being off the road and on farmer pasture fields. We were on a super high speed 4 lane Toll highway. The EU Superhighway. Even though I update the chip each year, this glaring mistake has been going on for a long time. I hope it will work next year because I will have to by the 2018 version. Perhaps, it will wake up.
👤I would rate this product much higher if only the maps were used. The first time I have ever encountered this problem, my Nuvi doesn't recognize names I type in that are on the map, which is a critical failing. I think language translation made what I type in and what is in the map database different, even though they look the same. I learned from other East European travelers that this is a problem. To get around this, you need to determine the gps coordinate of where you want to go, and enter that as the destination. It works, but you need to figure out the coordinates of the gps device before you get in the car, and it's a techy chore. My final comment is that the routing algorithms are just as good as any of the other competitors, even though they are not as good as those of Google Maps. The Nuvi seem to want to take the shortest route even when the speed limits are lower. Sometimes it was fun to go through some country lanes in the middle of nowhere. We had to detour once because a road didn't go through. It's not fun if you're in a hurry.
👤I bought this product for our trip to Croatia and it worked great. We rented a car in Zagreb and it took us to the apartment we rented in the North of Zagreb to see the Trakoscan castle. We drove from Zagreb to our apartment in Split after setting the avoidance setting. We stopped in Bosnia on the coast highway from Split to Dubrovnik. We went to lunch in Montenegro, as far as Kotor. There was only one main costal road in Montenegro. We drove to the airport to catch our flight home. There were no surprises and the gps worked perfectly. Croatia is a friendly country. This was a great vacation.
👤I had no idea what was happening when I plugged it in. It took a long time to figure out that it worked. No instructions or guidance at all. Online help is not available. The Hungarian character "" is not found in the maps, so any address with this character will not be found. It took me a long time to figure out if I replaced this character with a space or not. If you have the same problem, try this. It was a difficult process.
